My latest addition to the family, Riley the Yorkshire Terrier Hello Yorkie lovers, Thank you YorkieTalk.com for accepting me in your community. I have recently acquired a 'handsome' companion named Riley:). He is a 3 month old Yorkshire Terrier and is super active. His best buddy is his toy teddy almost his size. At this age, my Yorkie already weighs in at 1kg. I was told it is normal as they come in various sizes. The cutest thing that I've seen him doing is 'hiding his Denta chewy stick' behind the doors or in corners and trying to cover it with imaginary sand. Wow! so instinctive. At the moment, he's run off with my slippers. What a cute companion ! My only problem is that he is rather nippy when I try to groom him and tries to nip our toes as well. I am sure this will stop gradually since he's just a playful puppy. I love him so much and he loves a good tummy tickle. Happy to have come across this site and waiting to meet all Yorkie lovers. :aimeeyork |
Welcome! And good luck with Riley! |

Hello and welcome, anxious to see pics of Riley... |
Good evening and welcome to you and Riley from the UK! :) :wavey: So glad you found us - lovely people ;) and loads of brilliant tips and advice....oh, and the chewing DOES stop - eventually!!! :D Congratulations on your new baby! Sally + Harry :aimeeyork x |
welcome to you and riley. |
Thanks a lot for the 'welcome' messages all you lovely Yorkie lovers and you gorgeous Yorkies! Will put up pics shortly. The vet told me that he's a bit heavy for his age (3 months) he weighs in at 2.2kgs! I don't find him fat..he is big, hyper active and a hungry baby boy. He is wrestling with his toy Snoopy. There is always a wrestling match going on before he sleeps. He is usually hungry after the match but I guess I should not feed him just before he flops out, right? Pics coming soon... |
WELCOME!!!!! :) Louise in Houston, TX USA :animal-pa:animal-pa:animal-pa:animal-pa |
welcome to yt :D |
Hi India welcome from Scotland. Isn't it great that we are brought together from all over the globe for love of a dog, or 2,00 or,3.... You get my drift. Riley sound lively and healthy. I gave mine a little squirt with a water bottle when they nipped or do anything I want to stop. Works quickly for them I also say a loud no at the same time. If he is teething try swapping your toes for a chew toy lol. Looking forward to hearing all your adventures |
When my puppy Lucy gets nippy, I quickly give her a favorite chew toy. Really, they need to chew. I do correct her when she nips at humans - I don't want her to think that that activity is OK. I've also been taking Lucy for plenty of walks. We don't go far but I find that the activity makes her sleep very very well at night. She also is training to "go" outside. Best wishes with your new little boy! :D Tracey |
Riley hates his harness Thanks Luvlee, but I cannot get him to keep the harness on just yet. Chews that as well...still a baby. Patience is needed and I have a lot of that!! :) No walks for another month maybe till all major shots are over and done with. How did you potty train your lovely yorkie? would love some suggestions. :thumbs up.:animal-pa |
Thanks Scotland. Great to meet you and your adorable Yorkies. How many do you have? Aren't they an intelligent lot! Wow, my daughter's yorkie practically knows English. :) |
Hi Scotland,Love the idea of the 'water bottle' squirt but am sure Riley is gonna think its a game and try and catch the squirt. He's a jumper! haha |
Thank you England! Will be meeting a lot in future with amusing anecdotes and tips, etc. |

I'm not using wee pads because I want Lucy to only go outside. That's a matter of personal preference. From what I understand, it takes a long time to train our yorkies to do their business where we want them to. Lucy's been doing OK so far. Let me know your progress in that area also! Good luck. Welcome to YorkieTalk!! We all can't wait to see pictures of Riley :D |
Welcome. My Choppa was chewy as well almost like chewing at whatever moved but not mean like. I simply said NO BITE. It would stop him the he starts again and I do it 2 more times then ignore him. No love for a few minutes then love. It took him no time to stop chewing on moving fingers but he did start licking everything. Lol. Congrats on your baby and WELCOME to you and Riley |
