My obsessed furbaby... It started with the outside dryer vent. Everytime I let Copper out, he went staight for the side of the house with the vent. I thought maybe a lizard went in it or something. This went on for 3 days. I could hardly get him to do his pottying. Well...a couple of nights ago, I walked around the corner of the house (dog in my arms) and spotted something black jump into the vent. I thought, "Darn, we have a rat." I put Copper in the house and turned on the dryer. I waited. Out popped a small bunny. When I got close, he jumped back into the vent. I went and got a soft dust mop with a long handle. When the bunny popped out again I covered the vent hole with the mop. The bunny took off. My brother came and fashioned a grate for the vent. Later, I was eating dinner when Copper wanted to go out the sliding door right next to the table. He took off heading for the vent. I felt a little smug that the problem was solved. The next thing I hear is a squeal. I went running around the corner only to find Copper (4 lbs. of vicious guard dog) holding the bunny on the ground. Then he picks it up by the scruff of the neck with his teeth. I grab Copper and lift him a foot off the ground yelling "drop it, drop it"...Copper was not about to let his prize go. The bunny wiggled loose and took off. Copper was left with a mouth full of fur. :) I took Copper in and gave him a bath (didn't know what kind of "varmits" the bunny might be carrying)...my dinner is still sitting on the table.... I now have a wet and frusterated dog who is "dying" to go back outside and finish what he has been tracking for days.... Now Copper spends a lot of time standing near the fence on the other side of the lawn where I'm sure the bunny disappeared to.... I have to say, the terrier in these dogs is strong! In the past few weeks Copper has caught a lizard and a bunny. He is tougher than I thought! |
Ok...I made a bunch of sentence and spelling corrections...then hit the wrong button and posted the uncorrected version. So...sorry for the errors! |
Dang!!! I think I would have preferred the bunny to the frog i got! Orion loves to run through my garden, and i couldn't figure out why. It's 3:30 in the morning and i'm trying to get ready to leave for work....Mr. Orion has gone potty but wont come out of the bushes. I cant yell, cuz i'll wake the neighbours. Here he comes all proud of himself and drops a FROG on my foot!! You all know i wanted to scream....cant its 3:30 in the blasted morning!!! He's sitting there looking at me with a grin like did i do good mom? Miss lady Raelle is long back in the house and back in bed. Woke me up fast that morning! |
What a delicious Yorkie tale! I love these stories about our Yorkshire Terriers showing their true natures & how they balance the little varmint killers they were bred to be with all the love, loyalty and fondness for cuddling of a wonderful companion lapdog, at home on the farm or madame's chaise longue. They are amazing little creatures as Copper's story reveals. It is incredible how those terrier genes are still so strong in these little toots of the 21st century. Copper, you take the cake! |

I wouldn't have believed Copper could catch a lizard either. But there he was with the lizard, minus the tail I might add, in his mouth. He should know "drop it" by now! Frog...ick! |
Lol, And then it takes them days and weeks to forget about it! |

We've got a resident toad that Jaeger and the neighbor's cat like to bother. I wish that mixed breeds could do earth dog trials-I'm sure Jaeger would love the heck out of that. Im glad the bunny got away :) |
