Fleas Yes I know, fleas, bane of our existence and here in So Cal it's a year around fight and this time of the year even more so it seems. OK I use the advantage II flea/tick/heart worm, we tried the comfortus, couldn't get the pill down or even the crushed meds eaten, I think we have tried most every brand on the market. Except the collar which I don't think works. SO anyway went to the vet for more advise, best place right? Her comment " your bathing the dog too much and washing off the flea protection". OK Sprocket gets a bath about 7-10 days, hypoallergenic shampoo, no conditioner. I THOUGHT THE FLEA STUFF WAS WATER PROOF. BUT she has a shampoo recommended by the manufacturer of flea stuff shown not to wash off the meds "as much" to me sounds like a come on. Otherwise my options are more meds, just a regular dose of flea meds in between the flea/heart worm one, which is not good, less washing and a stinky dog, or fleas on my dog and in my house, also not good. Thoughts, ideas, anything? |
bumping!! |
I use peppermint oil (essential oil) mixed with water...I also read lemongrass oil will do the same thing...also repels ticks. 1 cup of water and 15-20 drops oil...mix in spray bottle...wet paper towel and wipe it all over the dog...avoid eyes. where this is not a chemical it has to be applied every couple of days...but its better than using chemicals....and it works! can also be used on people to keep mosquito's away |
I use 1/2 tube of K9Advantix II on each of my girls every 30 days and do not bath them within three days of application. It repels bugwuggies. I also use Vets Best Flea and Tick spray on their bedding, carpets, furniture, etc. (It can be used on the dogs alone, or in addition to topicals). |
Add some garlic powder to the food. Fleas hate it! |
We had a huge flea problem the last few weeks. Got comfortis and haven't had a problem since. We put the pill in some coconut oil. Didn't even know it was there! now I'm giving Zyrtec in the coconut oil. Easy peazy. |
