Bentleys first road trip...i'm a little nervous
 
We were invited to a wedding with a pet friendly hotel. Of course we would much rather have the pups stay with gramma but, my parents have a maltipoo who is 13+ lbs (and hyper) AND they are watching my grand daughter who is 4 yrs old and LOVES the furbutts...won't listen when you tell her NOT to pick them up.. Sadie and Lillie are "sturdier" than little Bentley...they will run from her...Bentley....not so much...I thought it would be to much for my parents to have 4 small dogs and a 4 yr old so....we are taking Bentley with us...I am a nervous WRECK leaving him in the hotel room alone...shakes when he is in an unfamiliar place...but most of all I am worried that someone will take him...I know how this breed is usually a target for theft and I am worried about someone coming into the room and take him...anyone ever take their pup with them to a hotel and have to leave them for the day/night? we will be going back and forth to check on him....please give me some feed back on this...we are leaving in a couple of hours...

First, not all hotels will allow you to leave the dog in the room unattended. But IF the do I would bring a pack and play (or ask housekeeping for one ~ they may have some they reserve for the pups) and/or baby gates. Always leave your Do Not Disturb sign out and leave the television ON. Bring familiar items from home (bedding, toys, etc) and maybe an air freshener scent that you use in your home. Leave him with a piece of your clothing and something that belongs to the other pups as well.

Hope Bentley does well!

Maybe a hotel that welcomes pets offers a "pet sitting" service. They do that for kids so maybe pets?

Make sure the hotel welcomes pets though. If Bentley starts yipping while you're out of the room, it may be a problem for other guests.

How long will he be unattended? Is it possible to board him at a vet (at your destination) just for the hours that he would otherwise be alone? He may not be totally happy with that, but you could rest assured that someone would have an eye on him and he wouldn't be stolen, etc.

LOL! Were you in our hotel room!! LOL...this is exactly what I did!! The entire day was a NIGHTMARE!! long story.,,won't get into it! However, Bentley did GREAT! I will say this....I WAS NOT told about the additional 50.00 non refundable deposit for having a dog in our room...I was SO angry!!! and with everything else that happened to us yesterday because of these people!!!!! well, lets just say that Bentley is going to make them work for their 50.00 non refundable deposit!!

We kept going to check on him...he did fine..Bentley was nervous just being in and unfamiliar place...I did bring my bathrobe for him to lay on, he likes to snuggle inside it when I have it on so it has his and my scent on it, laid my jeans on the floor, and brought his favorite toys...OH! and a sock I had worn that the little stinker took out of the laundry! LOL...He was a good boy....I don't like boarding my dogs...if we can't take them with us and my parents can't doggy sit...we don't go.

Sorry to hear^^

I leave Jackson in the hotel when we go out to dinner across the street every summer in Gettysburg. The dogs also stay in my dads RV when we go camping, if we have to leave and go somewhere w/o them.

He does fine. I don't leave him in a crate but I do block the door entrance with a gate, put the Do Not Disturb sign on the door, and turn the TV up loud. :)

this is what we did too!...the nightmare wasn't with Bentley....it was with the hotel!...will NEVER stay there again and wrote them a VERY nasty e-mail! long story short...we missed the wedding because of them!

I know you said you don't like to board him, but what about a free-range day care? They usually separate the big and little dogs, and he can play all day til you come get him :)

already went and are back...all went great!...with Bentley that is...the rest of the stay there was HORRIBLE!!

oh sorry the rest of the trip was horrible!!!! glad bentley did well though.
