Jackson almost always wears a collar (except at night, or after bath time, etc).

Never experienced a problem with collars and any of our dogs or family members dogs.

I like him being collared and tagged, as I am not the only one that lives here, and if God forbid he ever got out when I wasn't here, I want him to have identification. He's also microchipped for added peace of mind.

I just know that any lost dog I've ever found, I automatically first look for a collar. Otherwise a lot of people assume an uncollared dog is probably a stray, at least in my experience.

Not to mention my collar addiction. ;) I'm always shopping for collars. He's got two leather ones he rotates between now.

On another note, I don't see how wearing a harness is any safer than a collar (not for walking purposes, for just for leaving on while they are home alone). Both would seem equally as likely to get caught on something, to me.

This is exactly what i do with my two dogs. maverick and remington have never had a leash attached to their collars. my vet advised against it due to the possibility of them getting a collapsed trachea especially if they pull.

While a harness could get caught on something, it won't choke them to death. I can pick Joey up by his harness, without any pressure on his neck.

I put it on a little collar rather than her harness because I don't make her wear her harness except for walks. A lightweight little collar is all she wears (with the tag), then we use the harness for walks, but the collar stays on with the harness, it's not in the way. She will tolerate clothes, but doesn't like it when I first put them on her, however when I put the collar on she never noticed. You could always tag both a collar and a harness I suppose. One advantage to the buddy belt is you could probably use a bigger tag and put more info on it. I only could put 2 lines on Maggie's little tag. I'll post a pic when I get a chance, unless the person who put it on the buddy belt does first.

I agree and that's exactly why I want Sophie to wear an id tag on top of being microchipped. Until 6 months ago I had never heard of microchipping your pets and I would have been one of those people who only looks for an id tag if I found a lost dog.

Sophie is 3.5lbs but she is very tiny...especially her neck. In her case I would rather her get caught up in her Buddy Belt harness then damage her trachea with a collar. She is watched like a hawk all day and I would never leave her alone with a collar or harness on. I will be taking it off every night too.

I see I'm not the only one who wrestles with this problem. I think all the commenters make valid points. There's not a clear-cut solution, IMO.

I'm not comfortable leaving either the harness or the collar on when I'm not home for fear of it getting caught on something. It's happened to me, and my dogs have had long days snagged in a blanket or something waiting for me to get home.

But if I only attach the tags when I'm home, it defeats the purpose. They're not going to escape when I'm watching them.

I settled for attaching the tags to the harness when I leave them with a sitter. Since I never trust anybody completely, I feel slightly more comfortable knowing they're tagged when I'm gone.

The rest of the time, they're untagged -- only chipped. And I'm not real comfortable with that.

Here are 3 photos of Yazmin's Leapord BB with the Tag attached. Another thing I forgot to mention was that once I attached the tag, I laid it against my kitchen counter and slowly bent the tag so it would naturally curve with the shape of the harness. Thanks so much for the link and for taking the time to post pictures for me. That tag works great with the Buddy Belt! I prefer that type of id tag to the ones I have been looking at for her.

When Gracie was about 6 months old she started trying to rush out the door when ever it would open. She got out a couple of times and we had to run all over trying to catch her. It's amazing how fast those little legs can run. One time she went out the door with the cable guy that was working on our internet connection. If he had no seen her out there I would not have known she had gotten out. Anyway, at that point I decided I needed to put a collar and ID tag on her. Most of the break away cat collars are safe for a puppy. I have heard of some of the freak accidents that have happened to a few people on YT. I felt because of the circumstances that she needed the ID tag at that point. Later when she was spayed I had her micro chipped but I still feel more comfortable knowing that if she ever got lost I would have a better chance of getting her back more quickly with the tag on. She also has a cat bell on her collar. There are a few varieties available online that are quite safe.

You're welcome. After looking at several tags, this was the best solution for the BB that I was happy with also.

Carla, thanks for posting pictures. I love that tag too! Can anyone tell me what age they started using the buddy belts? I know they are a bit pricey and I don't want Hope to outgrow it too quickly. She has a couple harness dresses that I'm using right now.

I just returned from Petsmart and purchased the identical tag!! I tried to figure out where to put it and thought it couldn't be affixed. I was just about to give up on using it when I found this post!! Thank you!

I was thinking it had to be attached to the center of the harness and I thought it would be too stiff to be comfortable. I like very much where you installed it.

I'm keeping your pics up so I can see exactly where it goes as I do the install. Much much thanks again.

I waited to get Yazmin's BB's after she was a little over a year old but I mainly wanted to wait until I was pretty sure she had reached maximum weight. From 10 to 13 months her weight stayed the same so thats when I ordered her first BB from Maximo, here on YT. :)

You're welcome Tracey. My first thought was to attach it also to the chest but came to the same conclusion you did concerning comfort. Being attached below the BB emblem is high enough that it doesn't rub or irritate her leg either. ;)
