Looking for an adorable Yorkie to call my own! Hi everyone! I'm new to this site and I am very interested in adopting a Yorkie puppy. I live in NJ and I was wondering if anyone from the NY Metro area (NY, Connecticut, NJ) would have any advice as to where to go. I am willing to travel. Also, would you recommend a Yorkie to a single person who works during the day? Thank you for your help! Jenny |
I cannot tell you where to look in your area, but you may check out the AKC site for reputable breeders. Read all you can here on this site . Yorkie puppies need so much attention and hands on training in order to become strong, healthy adults. If you have to work all day, like many others do, it will be difficult to leave a new puppy alone , some of them will reject food when you bring one home and need to be closely monitered for blood sugar drops, which will kill a new puppy, somebody needs needs to be there for the puppy, to me my experience was my yorkie puppy was clsoe to bringing home a new baby. If your unable to be at home for long extended time periods and their is nobody to help care for the pup then I would wait until I had more time at home for the puppy, otherwise you might check into adopting a older pup, at least 6 months to a couple yrs old. that would be so much easier for a working person , then a fragile, new yorkie baby. Evenso thee little guys require attention as much as possible no matter what age they are great dogs, but have special needs and requirements, that is what found to be true when I brought home my yorkie. |
You can go to the AKC site. I'm quite sure there is a conformation club in your area. American Kennel Club - Club Search and Directory Do a search for a conformation club and then do one for a breed club in your state and near by states. These clubs usually have contact people who can give you info on breeders. You might want to attend a show or two to meet some of those who show and get to see the dogs. There is also the Yorkshire Terrier Club of America that you can contact. I think there are a few breeders listed in NY and the states around you. These are starting points. There may be other who know of breeders nearby. Yorkshire Terrier Club of America |
Thank you! Thank you both for the great information! |
Welcome to YT! Good luck with your search! |
