Had a scare...
 
This evening when I left Troy out I noti ced he had dark red/orange urine. I was in an immediate panic so we headed out to the vet. After blood test, urinalysis and an x-ray to rule out bladder stones Troy just had an UTI.

He is now resting and being spoiled.

So he is on antibiotics and prescription Royal Canin SO for Urinary Tract for a while. Has anyone else experienced this? I don't know how he could have gotten this.

Poor Troy! You are a great mom for catching it so quickly and getting him to the vet. Sending best wishes for him that it will clear up quickly.

Sorry I don't know enough to guess what may have caused the infection.

Thank goodness you acted quickly and got him in to the vet!! I hope he feels better soon!

It is a little unusual for a male to have a UTI. I would ask your vet if it indicates anything that you should watch for in the future. So glad he had no stones. I assume you noticed the color because of a pee pad? Another great advantage of using them.:)

No pee pad. We stopped using them some time ago when Troy stopped one day. I walk with him typically and as a male would typically do he was marking his territory. I thought I saw it the first "pitstop" but paid close attention to it the second and then that's when I freaked and ran to the vet.

Another thing to note is that he didn't hike his leg so he was in a bit of pain around the belly area.

The vet said that it's not unusual to see this time of year as more dogs become dehydrated. Its been hot in GA and even though we don't spend much time outside, Troy can still decrease his water in take.

This morning, you can see that the food and meds have worked because his urine is "nice and yellow". LOL

Don't let this fool you. On a routine visit to the vet, they told me Brandi had a UTI. There was no blood in her urine to let me know she had one. Brandi has had multiple uti's so I know what to look for. One time she had it, she never showed any syptoms. Shie is a female so it maybe different for males. It's a little scary that she could have a uti and not have any sypmtoms to let me know.


Now that she is 12 yrs old, she goes to the vet for senior wellness check ups every 6 months. I'm glad your little one is doing okay.
