new doggie coming home this sat! hello everyone!! i love this yorkie talk..great info and so much support...Well for those of you who know my first puppy died about three months ago ..I only had him three days..It was a very traumatic experience for me but im so ready and excited for my new puppy thats coming home this sat..I saw him last night at the breeders..His temperament seems so different than BOO BOO"s..This boy doggie is very calm..seems very sweet..I feel like im so much more prepared for this one..Ive really done my homework on this breed..I will not let people hold him while standing up...I still go back and forth with getting a boy or a girl..My question I guess or comment is that I was so surprised that my 11 week Yorkie is so big..He's probably already 3.5 or 4 pounds..I fear he will be huge..I really had my heart set on a small dog, no more than 5lbs..I know i will love him no matter what size, but is it true that he could be a 10 to 12 lbs when full grown? I know he is a pure breed and his mom is on the small side, maybe 6 to 7lbs..Why is he so big while his sister is still so tiny? |
Congrats on the new puppy. Yorkies were not always the breed we know and love today. they were bred from other dogs and the first "official" yorkies were larger. so today's dogs can also inherent traits from their four-fathers. sometimes it happens, most likely your puppy will be on the bigger side, but that just means more to love :D |
hi , congrats on your new puppy. i am sure you will love him no matter what he weighs. my oscar was 4 lbs @ 11 weeks . now @ almost 10 months he weighs 7 1/2 pounds. |
I am not sure how big the little boy will be full grown, but according to the growth chart for what he weighs now he is not even on the growth chart. My little man is 25 weeks old and he weighs 3 lbs 4oz. I think from what I have read that your little guy will probably be what they call a Tea pot or bigger than standard size. My little guy according to the growth chart is supposed to be no bigger than 5lbs, but only time will tell. I know he has not grown any the last 3 weeks at all, so I guess I will see. Good luck on your new little one. They definitely have a way of stealing your heart. |
thanxs!! |
My second boy, Maxie, was 4.5 # at 15 months...I thought he was probably full grown... but at 2 1/2 now, he weighs 6 #, and the additional weight is mostly muscle. He had been kept kenneled.. his little legs were almost bird like. But he runs in the yard and play fights with my 4 year old Yorkie, and he's strong as an ox now. Your baby will probably be on the larger side. Marley weighs in now at 9.5 # after rescuing him at age 2 at 7#. He's not fat at all... (well, maybe a little). It looks like they gain significant muscle mass at 2+ years old as they mature. Consistent 1 mile walks with correctly clipped nails will keep him at appropriate weight -- whatever that is. Marley walks a mile in the morning and again in the evening. Maxie holds out for the outbound walk, but then whines to be carried home. |
