Little Back-Talker Does anyone here have a furkid that sometimes "back talks"? Mr. Neo has just started pushing my buttons this summer by not wanting to do what Mama says! Whenever it is time for the boys to come in from the back yard, Connor can't get in fast enough-but not Neo. He looks directly at me, and defiantly walks away to "sniff" or do his own thing. It takes me a lot of time and "threats", lol until he decides that he will finally obey. My DH is the only one that he will obey, as a rule, without a lot of fuss, but the other night even he got "dissed" by the little monster!:D I wish I had it videoed to show on here, because you wouldn't need a translator to know that Daddy just got "dog cussed"! Neo grumbled at DH for about a minute, looking directly at him and growling under his breath. It was so funny-I thought for a minute that I had a teenage human son! |
Mine sure does, not all the time...But god forbid if you say something like "Oh he is such a quiet dog" he will give you a LOOk and then start talking. One time, Jaeger accidentally bumped into me and my Sir says "Jaeger, don't beat up your momma" in a playful voice, and I'll be darned if he didn't turn right around and let out a disdainful yip. |
Cattle dogs are good for "back talking" also. When ours was pup, I got on to her about something and she looked at me and barked once. I got onto her again and she barked at me twice. Too funny. But oh how we do love them. |

If Mina barks in the house,I tell her inside voice. She will grumble for a second or two and stop. If I tell her "enough or hush" she will grumble for about 20min and stare at me as well. Sassy lil things arent they?! |
All my Yorkies now are back talkers- Zoey never was though. I say it is a terrier thing. |
Haha Oliver "huffs"...forcefully blowing air out of his mouth with a grunting noise. He also imitates. If you playfully say "no". He will yip one time. Say " I said no". He gives you three yips. If you get serious and give him a stern look and say "enough" in stern voice that's whenwe get the huffy noise! |
Jaeger did it to me twice tonight....I blame this thread lol. He's been playing the potty game for six hours and I toms him to just go potty already. He threw his head back and read me the riot act |
Sophia is a back talker!!! Brody not so much, he listens to momma :). |
Shanti isn't Yorkie but she eyeballs me. Like I am the QUEEN how dare you instruct me, Minion. Lol. |
I think Joel did that the first time yesterday, I was cleaning his face and he was making his complaining noise but he was still being good not moving, he was just letting me know I was taking too long, lol |
Oh yes, balk talk, arguing & the huff n puff too. I love every minute of it all, lol. |

Oh, ho, my Tibbe sure has his own mind & back-talks me all the way in sometimes but he comes on in - just a little slower and snorting & barking at me for stopping his fun outside. He's a big talker - but he usually does what I have asked - just tells me if he's not happy about it. Just put a container with a few pieces of boiled chicken in it & see how fast your little guy will come when called, if he slows down too much. I occasionally have to refresh Tibbe's recall training to get him coming on the run. Using a high-value treat for a day or two during recall training refreshing works wonders. |
