question? I got a puppy from a puppy mill. (Didn't know at the time) would you have your vet do an all out work up on her? Such as blood work, xrays, etc...... although my puppy has skin issues, other then that, she's wonderful! Got her at 10 weeks, and 1.7 lbs. She's now going on 14 weeks, and was 2.6 at 13 weeks. She's totally fun, active, lots of energy, almost potty trained. She eats great, poops, pees, and sleeps all night. So is it really necessary to ask for all those tests? Opinions anyone???? |
I'm sure someone can give you a better answer than I can. I do know that some of the problems that puppy mill dogs have do not show up until they get a bit older. Things like joint issues and even liver problems may not show up until later. I would get blood work done. I'm not sure how effective other tests would be at this age. I guess you have to decide if the one who sold you the pup would ever refund any money if there were health issues. Probably not. Do you have any kind of a contract? |
Yes I would:D Yes I did:D Just in case:D Did at 1 year old too:D about to do it again at 7....!!! (bump) |
Well you really should have taken her in within 48-72 hours after purchase. Likely you don't have any meaningful health guarantee so it probably is a moot point, if the vet does find something wrong, you might not have any financial recourse against the breeder. I would make an appointment when she is 16wks old. I would ask for a Bile Acid Test to be done, as well as a full blood panel. Have a through physcial exam done by the vet. Especially make sure the knees are good. I wouldn't do Xrays at this point, unless there is a particular problem arises and or the vet, recommends a Xray of a particular joint. Stool sample, and an urinanalysis done. This will give you some good baseline measurements. |
Thanks for the suggestions. Yeah, funny, the broker said don't go to vet. And her contract said the opposite, within 72 hours. I did go 5 days later after purchase. Since I'm going to see my usual vet, I'll ask him what's needed! What a worry. I hope shell be fine. I just love her to death. I can't bear anymore bad news. This has been crazy so far! Wish us luck!!!! |
