Bringing home a puppy - safe? I am planning to pick up a puppy (not another Yorkie, but a JRT/rat terrier mix) next week and take care of her until Christmas for my brother. Don't worry, he knows it's coming; he asked for help. :) Anyway, the puppy is 8 wks old and has had first round of shots and has been wormed so she will be safe to bring home, right? I just do not want to cause any health issues for Penny. |
How old is Penny? Is she in good health? Does she have a strong immune system, eat well, etc.? |
Penny will be 2 years old on 12/29. She eats well and is in good health. Occasionally she will have a bout of colitis, but she hasn't had an episode since we switched her to prescription food in August. She loves other dogs, so I don't worry about that stressing her out. |
I would make sure she's been vaccinated against kennel cough. When I brought Cali home she had kennel cough and gave it to my Pom. Good Luck |
From what I know about kennel cough there are so many strains of the ailment that the bordatella vaccine is really almost useless as protection but if she has a strong immune system she should be fine. You may want to consult a homeopathic vet to see if there are any alternatives or supplements you cna give her help boost her immune ssytem in preapartion for the puppy. |
