Introduction 1 Attachment(s) Hello. My name is Tara, and I am the mother of two gorgeous Yorkie girls, Sunshine who is 12, and Shadow, who is 11. I'm afraid not the best of circumstances has brought me here. My Sunshine is not in the best of shape. As I write this I am holding her in my arms wrapped in a blanket. She's currently having a hard time breathing, and over the past week has taken to just falling over or collapsing. We don't know why or what to do, but I have the horrible dread in the pit of my stomach that my time with her is almost at an end. Sorry to start out this way. I will try to post a picture of both of my precious girls. Thanks for listening. |
Welcome to YT you will find lots of useful info here, So sorry that your little one is sick, I would be on my way to a vet with her, she may have something that is treatable and could stay with you for many more years.. |
Welcome to YT. Have you taken your little one to the vet yet? |
Welcome to YT. I see two adorable faces in that picture. I am so sorry to hear about your little one's problems. My best advice would be to see a vet. Honestly, a vet will be the only one who can truly tell you what is going on. |
We are actually at the vet right now, for the second time in 2 weeks. Having xrays done on my baby girl right now. |
welcome and good luck i hope you get some answers to help sunshine!! keeping her in my thoughts. |

Welcome to YT. Best wishes for your little girl. You will find tons of support here! |
Hello and welcome to YT...sorry you little one isn't feeling well...hopefully the vet can shed some light, please keep us posted. You and Sunshine are in my thoughts and prayers. |
It is unfortunate that when our dogs age they do require more health care. I hope the vet is able to do the appropriate tests and diagnosis your little one this time. Please let us know how things go. |
Hello and welcome to Yorkie Talk. Please keep us updated. |
Well the xrays yesterday showed an enlarged heart. When she is falling over and collapsing it's because her heart can't pump the blood fast enough when she's excited. Thaking her to another vet about 45 mins awat today for an EKG and sonogram. Vet says we neee to determine what exactly is going on to be able to determine how to treat it. Please keep us in your prayers today. Keeping her calm through all of this will take a miracle. Every time she gets too excited she has a collapsing episode, and each one seems worse than the last. Thanks for the warm welcome you've given me and all of the kind words. Just knowing there are people out there who understand that this is my child and care even though they are complete strangers touches me very deeply. |
Welcome to YT! I will keep you guys in my prayers! I hope she gets to feeling better. |
I'm so glad you are getting her right to the specialist. I hope they find they can treat this without too much trouble. When she gets excited the heart is not able to deal with the speed up and her brain does not get the blood flow it should. Actually, when she collapses it makes her heart slow down so the blood flow goes back to what she can tolerate. |
I want to thank you all for your kind words and prayers. Sunshine, my beautiful baby girl (the light colored beauty in the foreground) passed away in my arms shortly after sunrise yesterday. We did everything we could for her, and she fought just as hard as her little body could. We found out that the entire right side of her heart wasn't functioning, and her pulmonary artery had so much pressure on it that she couldn't breathe. The specialist had given us a sliver of hope, and we grabbed onto it with both hands. We started her on 4 different medications on Wednesday, but after a rough night of almost no sleep, after a morning trip outdoors my dad rushed her up the stairs and into my arms, sobbing that she was leaving us. She breathed two deep labored breaths and then was gone. We smile about the lovely rotisserie chicken dinner she had that night as it was the only thing we could get her to eat, but boy did she eat it up. My mother brought white roses for my little sweetheart and a special soft blanket to wrap her in, with her beautiful flowers. She always did love to press her nose into any flower she came upon to smell it. We are all so lost right now, especially my other baby Shadow (the dark one in the background of my picture). We let her sniff Sunshine's face before we had to wrap her lovingly up for her final trip to see our local vet she loved so much. Please keep poor lost little Shadow in your thoughts. We are all so heartbroken, and sadly I must face work today. I put every ounce of energy and all of myself into trying to save Sunshine's life over these past few days. Thanks you all for your understanding and caring. |
