Help - potty training We've had our three month old Yorkie, Chewie for a month now. He's great when training to sit, lay down ..etc but we just can't get him to pee/poo in his puppy pads. My Husband and I are really good on taking him to the spot after naps and he actually does his thing. But throughout the day ..he just goes everywhere in the house. Any tips on potty training? I know some will suggest just potty training outside and that's a big no for us because we live in Spain and there are just too many ticks/fleas ..etc he can catch. On top of that, he has a tendency to eat grass and last time we let him out ..he had a horrible stomach flu and threw up bile for a couple days straight. Please help! |
Hola! :D Sorry, we're in England, and trained Harry to go outside, so I probably can't help much :( Are you at home during the day? Because, in or out, with any Littlie, consistency is the key. After all the 'normal' triggers (sleeping, eating, playing, 'circling' etc.) - onto the pad, and say "good wee-wee/poo-poo" as they perform :) You will reach the point, hopefully in not too long a time, when he does it 'on command'. When you're out - does Chewie have free roam of your place? If so, I personally wouldn't allow that to happen - yet. Too much space and freedom = lots of mischief! ;) Some use ex-pens, others crates, others a safe gated area - bed, toys, food + water and lots of pee-pads! Good luck! Sally + Harry :aimeeyork x |
You just can't let the little guy out of your sight. At his age he still does not have the ability to hold his urine in so if he gets too far from the pee pad he is going to have an accident. Some people put their puppies in an exercise pen with the pee pad when they cannot keep their eyes on them. It's not a good idea to leave them in one for long periods of time because they need to learn but if you cannot watch him he needs to be confined. It takes time and a lot of teaching but if you are consistent he will get it. |
