Just got Brutus and need a little more advice My wife and I picked up Brutus Yesterday and he is amazing. He is not yet 10 weeks yet he know to go Potty outside. He very playfull and the kids love him My question we got him from a breeder who we think was on the up and up. He has his shots and looks great. My Question t be safe and sound should we take him to the vet now or wait till his schedule apt next week? Also I think Brutus looks a little rough can i take him to the groomer yet he look so cute nut rough around the edges |
Congrats on your new little boy! Do you have a contract with your breeder that says you must have him vet checked by a certain time in order for contract to be valid? If not it would still be good to have him checked regradless just to have him checked out, things can go wrong so fast with these little guys. I also would NOT take him to a groomer, he has not had all his vaccines and can pick up to many things from a groomer, such as KC or parvo, i would suggest he not go anyplace till he has had all of his vaccines, you never know where there has been a sick dog. Good luck with your baby and keep him safe and happy at home for now. |
Welcome and Congratulations on your new pup! I would take him and get him checked out right away just to be sure. |
Im just scared cause we we found the breeder its find if he not AKC they say he ACA. Its ok he still need L.O.V.E. His face is all dirty and he a funny dog , he sleeping now in his bed but i just want to wash his face |
Congratulations on your new family member! This is a great site to Learn about how to care for your little guy! I would have him checked out by the vet...better safe then sorry. Otherwise I would not have him out so much..he is a baby after all. Give it time! When I got remy the vet trimmed her nails and ears for me, you could ask your vet. Yorkies get cold easy so if you bath be sure to keep him warm. Good luck...there are a lot of members who will help you when you ask! |
I second the advice of everyone here-I'd start gently manhandling him now so he gets used to being groomed and etc-we got Jaeger at 10 weeks and by his first vet appt he was letting me trim his toe fur, his nose fur, and letting me dremel his nails. The moron vet tech was really rough with him, and he hasn't been docile about being handled since. I'm still trying to retrain him to accept having his nose fur trimmed and his nails done, and he is 6 months old now. Also, a lot of groomers will immediately take a clipper to your dog because it is easier, which will change your dog's coat. Part of the fun of having a yorkie is watching the fur kaleidoscope :) |
Like was already said, see how long you have to take him to your vet for a checkup. Most breeders give you 24-48 hours but mine changed it in writing to 2 weeks (a sure sign Zachary was healthy IMHO). Remember though, that you can get VERY attached to a dog in a short time, hours sometimes (Zachary is becoming my favorite of the 6) so I would take him ASAP to be sure he is OK. CONGRATS!!! :):):):):) Louise and Zachary :animal-pa:animal-pa:animal-pa:animal-pa |

I agree about the FUR KALEIDOSCOPE!!! Never thought of it that way but that is just what it is. It looks so strange, the black ends of Zachary's fur are coming in blue!!! He is getting a LOT more tan on him also...he had just a bit around his eyes. I have been keeping the fur on his ears shaved so they continue standing up and what is growing out is NOT what he had before!! :D:D:D I read it can be 2 years before their true color is in and I am enjoying watching things change. I hope your breeder DID give you a shot record. Until all the shots are completed you do not want your puppy going out where other dogs have been. You can give your puppy a bath but keep him warm after and comb him out with a metal grooming comb. It should not be hard to do as his fur is still fairly short. You may need to use a wet wash cloth on his face daily if his face get dirty easily. He is really too young to take to a groomer. |
I would take my shot record and go to the vet and let him decide |
I took Bailey to the vet just 2 days after I got him. He had an ear infection and an eye infection! I called the breeder and she paid they vet bill. She was horrified. So yes..take him as soon as possible. |
