the breeder says our dog is now 2.4lbs at 8 wks That seems to be off the Yorkie chart listed in this forum for the high side. Does any breeders have a feel for the growth rate? we were thinking at first he would be 6 lbs. Now I'm thinking he's going to be bigger. Do you think he will slow down? I was hoping I could carry him around in a doggy purse. What do people think? |
You really never know they have their own growth rates. My male was 1lb at 6 weeks and he is 9lbs now at12 months. |
wow! can you still through him in a purse carrier? |
my pup was 2.8 at 8 weeks. now at nearly 11 weeks, he's 3.2. his dame is about 5 lbs, and his sire is about 8 lbs so i would expect him to be between 5-8 lbs or close to it. i think the standard guestimate is to take his weight at 12 weeks and double it for his adult weight. so, unless your pup is suppose to be a tiny one, 2.4 at 8 weeks sounds about right. |

Wyatt was 3 1/2 ti 4 lbs at 12 weeks. So I guess he will be between 7 & 8 lbs full grown and, he was the runt of the litter. You just never know. He is taking more after his daddy. Riggs is stockier than Mollie so it makes him look a lot heavier but he is only about 1/2 lb heavier than she is. |
Stewie was 3.5lbs @ 16 weeks and now he's 8.5! |
There is no way of really telling, but my Lilly was 2.5 lbs at 8 weeks, she is 6 months old and I'm thinking she must weight about 9lbs.. She does however have a fat little belly and she loves to eat. Some grow faster and some slower.. Lillys mom weighed 8lbs and dad weighed 5lbs, I thought some where inbetween that and I was wrong.. She still isn't tall like her mom, but she is a little tubby!! Borrow a friends carrier and put ten pounds of something in it?? Does it feel comfortable?? |
Cali was 1 lb at 10 weeks and now at 24 weeks she weighs 3.2. I'm guessing she will be around 4-5 lbs full grown. Also, it depends on their build. Cali is very fine boned but does not have a real short legged body, so you could have a heavier body weight that may look shorter. |
Chester was 1.8 at 8 weeks and topped out at 5 1/4 lbs. Gracie was 2.3 lbs at 8 weeks and at 1 year weighed 4 1/2 lbs. She now is 5 1/2 lbs. Rebel was 2.4 pounds at 6 weeks and is 4.10 lbs at 7 months. You never can tell with these dogs. A friend's dog's parents were 5 lbs. Her male is 7 lbs. You can guess by the parent's weights but it isn't always a guarantee. |
great. Thanks everyone. We can't wait to take our puppy home! |
I would guess he will be around 7-9 lbs if the weight chart is accurate. |

I am sure that these Yorkies love to make fun of these weight charts we talk about. My ltter of Biewer/partis have done complete turn-arounds. The female was a horse 4 3/4 ounces at birth, then one male was 4 1/4 and a tiny male around 3 ounces. Guess who the biggun is---#3. My little girl is a pound smaller than the males. That is one good reason, among others, for not selecting a newborn puppy from the breeder... |
