Have you ever snuck your Yorkie into a "no pets" motel? My daughter will be attending college this fall in a small town that only has 2 decent motels but both are "no pets allowed" motels. The motels in town that do allow pets are so gross that I wouldn't even allow my little Roxi to spend a night in them. Now my Roxi is only 2 lbs 14 oz so she would be really easy to sneak in. I usually leave her with my mom, but mom wants to go with me when I go to visit my daughter. I really have no one else I trust to take care of Roxi, especially because she does have liver disease and she's so small. Have any of you ever snuck your dog in and did you get away with it? I do worry about her barking, but I think the TV would drown that out. I would welcome any suggestions you guys might have. |
3 Attachment(s) Yes....nearly the first weekend we had him. I had to take a board exam up in PHX and one of Hubbies buddies works for a hotel up there, no pets. So I snuck him in my tote and we packed his pads and travel bowls. He was super good. He watched TV with his Daddy while I studied, he played quietly with toys, slept in the awesome king size bed with us. Fun weekend. |
ohhh and he was never alone. We stayed just one night. |
I wouldn't do it out of respect of the person or entity who owns the property. Since they bought & paid for the property & rights, carry the liability insurance, pay the taxes, employ the workers, and are fully responsible for what happens there, etc., they have the right to say who they want in their rooms & on their property. I try to personalize decisions like this, for instance if I owned & operated a business, I would want those who patronized it to either respect my rules of running my business or find another. Like the Golden Rule: Treat others as you would like to be treated. |

I've already looked at pet friendly places near the civic center where I take my next exam. |
I have never snuck a dog in a hotel that didn't allow pets, but have snuck them in places that allow pets to avoid the high fees they sometimes charge. I mean seriously, $25 and up for a 5 or 6lb. dog. Something to consider if you get caught, they sometimes charge a big fee or kick you out which wouldn't be fun:( |
The policy where I like to stay is if you do get caught with a pet, it's a $250 fine. I just don't know what to do because I'm so OCD about germs and the pet friendly hotels in this college town are just so gross. There is one hotel next door to the Holiday Inn that allows pets that doesn't look too bad from the outside. On my next visit, I might just go next door and see if they'll let me take a look at the rooms to see what they are like. I usually check TripAdvisor for reviews...this hotel got mixed reviews. |
I've done it a few times... but then again I also had a friend at the front desk who knew we were doing it. She just couldn't get us a pet friendly room and we didn't want to pay for it either. It would've been her fault for letting us do it anyways if we got caught... :P We will be driving 22 hours for my move at the end of the summer, and if we can't find a pet friendly hotel we will be doing it again. Harley has an xpen with a floor in it so there really is no risk of anything happening other than getting caught. Harley doesn't bark much so with a doggie carry purse, it's simple. And we will be arriving late and leaving early... If my dog caused damage I would pay for it though, without hesitating. |

We did it because we weren't thinking clearly when we got her and forgot we were taking S1 to a college football camp 2-3 hours away. We took her cage with us and we didn't leave her alone either. We were mainly there at bedtime so she spent little time out of her cage. She didn't sleep in the bed because we always have her sleep in her own space (crate). I didn't think it was a big deal because she doesn't shed and was so tiny and barely on the carpet or bed. Now, it would be harder and I'd feel more guilty. BUT, she still doesn't shed and I'd probably bathe her before we went somewhere. So, YES I would sneak her in. You just can't leave her alone because she might cry or bark. We even took her to watch my son work out in the afternoon the football camp. She hung out in the stadium with us and we ate lunch outside at a fast food place. I did stay with her in the hotel while hubby took son to the morning session. |
I would look into pet friendly motels, instead of sneaking her in, the cleaning ladies always come in once a day or so, and your dog could run out, or they may see her. I would not ever leave her alone either. And if caught you may be fined, as it was mentioned before. When we went to Disneyland we did find a pet friendly motel, but they had a set of rules, such as the cleaning lady does not go into the room, and the dog had places that were off limits. Disneyland has its own boarding kennels too, but I chose to keep the dogs home and have my brother care for them. |
I have done it a bunch of times and don't feel a bit bad, Lola is always bathed before we go anywhere and sleeps in her own bed, I would venture to say she is cleaner than some of these yahoos I see checking into the motels. I also am disgusted by some of the ratty blankets they have, I can not imagine she would make them any worse. In fact if driving I now pack my own blanket and always pack my own pillow. She is 100% potty trained and never has an accident. I only bring her if we are just overnighting or will be able to bring her everywhere we go. She is not a barker but I would be afraid that if left alone in strange place she would, I would also not want to take a chance that someone would come in the room and she would get out or be stolen. I think it is a crock about the pet fees they charge, it's hard to believe they do extra cleaning for a pet, because I am often appalled by the condition the rooms are left in when we check in, moldy shower curtains, dust and junk left under the bed, in the corners of the bathroom, etc. The places that I am talking about are like Hampton Inn, Best Western, Comfort Inn, even Holiday Inn Express. |
lA qUINTA IS PET FRIENDLY AND THEY ARE NOT TOO BAD....i AM TERRIFIED OF STAYING IN HOTELS AT ANY COST, BECAUSE OF BED BUGS!!! and I am scared of what my dogs will catch from those floors....i have always put a tarp dow on the carpet, and placed the ex-pen on top of the tarp....then I just got tooo OCD about everything so I am grounding myself...I got a travel trailer so I dont stay at hotels anymore, when I DO venture away from home!..... |
I'm not sure if I have ever snuck a dog in a no pets hotel but I have snuck them in to avoid paying the pet fees. The have special rooms for those with pets and the rooms are usually rooms that used to be for smokers. I'm not a smoker and just because I have a dog doesn't mean I should be subjected to an awful smelling room. My last trip, I snuck 3 of my yorkies in. No one ever knew as they are quiet and well trained. I don't leave my in rooms though. I couldn't leave them, I would worry about them the whole time being scared and alone in a strange place. So I just put them in their bag and take them with me. |
I haven't ...yet:) I think I wouldn't for a privately own place, like a bed and breakfast or such. I think that would be a front to them. I would in a national chain..because I think then it is just a way for them to make more money to charge fees. I am careful with remy and she does not leave any damage or germs. I have not traveled with the big guys. If I went in a place that had mold..dirty bathroom I wouldn't stay...period. I am not OCD about germs and I think I am average about being clean but I do get grossed out  I think the more I read about hotel rooms the more grossed out I get lol... Maybe in addition to taking my own pillows and blankets I will start packing a gallon of bleach when we travel! |

We sneak our yorkie into hotels all the time. We have a third generation of yorkies this year, and this is my first official post out here. If a yorkie is part of your family, and have never sneaked them in a hotel, you are either lying, or have never needed to lie. Respect? for who.... Liability? responsible? really? I have never commented, but this required me actually becoming a member. First of all, if you have well behaved yorkies, this is a null point. As far as hotels... 90% of the time, i receive much less than what I paid for. Secondly...the insurance is paid for by a percentage of your rate. thirdly, even if your dog pissed on the floor, they would collect insurance but not repair the mess i.e not replace carpet. fourthly...your little yorkie could not do half the damage the average person could do. Lastly...do you really think they respect you? you are making them very wealthy, and if they had to replace the carpet in every unit, twice per year, they would still be making prophet off of you. But they dont replace. do they? I sneak my yorkies in all the time, and i encourage them to pee on the floor. they use the pads at home, but we leave the pads at home. Pee away little yorkies... as a former "motel owner", i understand the deal. trust me....i have a pretty good life, along with my yorkies, due to the flaws in the system. |

As a former MOTEL owner, i can tell give you some insight. If your yorkie pees on the floor, its going to get steam cleaned(maybe). im going to charge you, or collect insurance. Im going to file a claim, pocket the money, but the carpet is going to remain as is. why? because as the owner, i dont have respect for you, or care. Its business. Let me say this....ive collected way too much money for college kids and drunks than for animals. If i had only 50lb dogs in my rooms, id be better off, and i doing good in retirement. kids and their parents cost more than a bit of pee...and to be honest, most folks who sneaked their pets into a room kept their pets in check. Yes...we know(but it matters little). Hotel owners love college kids, drunks, and new parents. small pets just fill in the blanks. bottom line...we make money either way. They dont respect you, why would you respect them? |
We did sneak Piccolo into a no pet hotel one time. We were on our way to the beach in North Carolina and got into a horrible thunderstorm in the early evening. We finally inched our way off the expressway and found a hotel. I have always felt a little guilty about this, but rationalized it because it was a safety issue. |
You can always call a hotel and describe yor pups and maybe they can make an exception. I know with my two little ones, owners allow them in because they are so small. We once rented a place that did not allow dogs and i spoke with the owner and once they met my pups they said it wouldnt be a problem. I would be too nervous to attempt to sneak them in, I wouldn't be able to do it. I would rather take my chances by being honest and asking. Plus what happens if you are caught and kicked out..:thumbdown |
I'm guilty. But...my cousin is the manager and she said it was ok to bring her. She said if someone said something she was going to tell them that Ahi was a service dog. :D |

Yes I've snuck her in, my choice is to stay at a nice pet friendly hotel, they are out there. However, if there isn't any that are nice I certainly just sneak her in. I refuse to stay in a hole, just because they accept pets and if it's not nice enough for me then it's not nice enough for my baby. I too agree that my baby, even if she were to pee on the floor, would not be as bad as drunks puking on the carpet which I am sure happens frequently. That's not all she doesn't make near the mess that little kids make, or the noise. I honestly don't feel guilty doing it at all. |
I do have to agree with some of the above. My little Roxi is cleaner and has better manners than some people I know. I work for a construction co and we have had to pay motels for the damage the guys do to the room...for example once a bunch of the guys got drunk and peed all over the carpet in the room. At least my little girl is pee pad trained ;) |
I do have to admit that when I do stay in hotels, I always bring my own sheets and pillow. I also bring Lysol spray and antibacterial wipes. There is an article today on MSN that the TV remote and light switches (especially the bathroom light switch) are the the most filthiest parts of a hotel room. |
If you reject my Pet, you reject my business. I would find somewhere else, some way, some how. ;) |

I would never stay in a hotel owned by the furious previous poster up there. Obviously they have a chip on their shoulder. |
