I understand how you feel! I wanted a dog forever and couldn't have one because of my allergies. Then I found out about Yorkies and I have NO problems with them! But, my parents would not give in and let me get a dog. I'm 24 now and my husband and I have Loki, who is a year. He is my sweet little angel. So, if you do have to wait a long time to get one, it's worth it!
If your parents are willing to let you get one they are a HUGE responsibility, but they are worth it! Loki is a year and still needs to go out at night, he doesn't really like to be left alone and he always wants to play! When it's nice outside we go for a walk everyday, and lately with the cold weather I've been sending him to doggie daycare to run around with the other dogs. My husband is home with him all day (he is working during that time but is able to let him out every hour or so). We do training classes once a week. His vet bills have been outrageous since he had a very sensitive tummy and a couple of UTI's, plus his neuter surgery and getting his baby teeth pulled. We crate trained him. Potty training was a nightmare and took months before he would let us know he needed to go out. I still have to *remind* him or ask if he needs to go. You have to feed them premium dog food that you can't really find at PetSmart, because they are so small they do need the good stuff. Don't get a tiny yorkie just because you want to carry it in your purse. Loki is a healthy 8 pounds and still small enough to put in the large size carrier but hearty enough to take 4 stairs at a time (I've finally stopped cringing!) ...
