Oh no, Geno might be getting a sister :) So I called the vet yesterday to ask them a question and of course, our breeder (who works at the vet) wanted to talk to me about an unrelated issue. Well, while I was on the phone, she told me Geno's parents had another litter. One boy and one girl. Geno's mom had to have a c-section so that is the last litter for her ever. Soooo I am really considering taking the girl. They're only 2 weeks old right now so no point in seeing them yet. My boyfriend gave me the choice of going on vacation this year or getting another puppy. Pretty sure he was convinced I'd take the vacation but the fact that Geno's parents have a girl puppy is way too hard to pass up. I really want the same parents just cause it'd really make them be sister and brother even though they are different litters. Without going on vacation, the puppy is definitely affordable. We'll need to talk to Josh's roommate to arrange for him to watch the puppy while we're at work, which hopefully won't be a problem. I guess I'm feeling a little hesitant though and not sure why. I do feel ready for a puppy so I don't know. Maybe I'm just worried about Geno. Any advice? |
What a great opportunity! I think it's a great opportunity! The new puppy will probably pick so much up quickly from watching her 'older brother.' I'd pass up a vacation to get another one that's for sure! I hope you can do it. Good luck! Tracey |
Having a new pup is always a mixed blessing and I'm sure you will worry about how Geno will react But- two are so nice all those pains are forgotten. Actually our Ziva(3) is so much better now that we have Abby- not so lonely and possessive, and better behaved too! (It didn't happen overnight- Abby is 10 months old) Good Luck with your choice, real siblings would be a plus! |
Great opportunity!!!!!! Get her!!! I'm convinced girls are easier to train than boys! :D. EEEK, so excited for you. Go with the puppy instead of the vacation! |
YES! YES! Get Her!! Get Her!! :D Riley's breeder had 1 boy and 1 girl, on May 18th, from a different Mommy, but same Daddy. I am a 1-dog person though. I Love being able to take him everywhere.... My friends actually get upset with me if I don't bring him with me when I go to hang out and watch tv, or whatever. He sleeps most of the day when I'm not home and I try and get him out and about and around other dogs, etc. as much as possible. |
I'm like you and was feeling the exact same way. I work at a vets office so we have breeders come in all the time with litters of puppies and what not because we cut them a deal. Well, two weeks ago, a woman came in with 5 yorkie/pom mix puppies and of course the male that I happened to be holding wasn't yet accounted for. I showed my parents his picture and that Sunday, my parents came up to the office along with the breeder so they could meet him and it was a done deal. We were hesitant at first because we're a little nervous with how Sasha is going to react and we don't want her to feel replaced at all. Honestly after a few days of thinking about it, I'm sure she's going to be fine and I'm actually excited to be having a puppy in the house again even though he's technically going to be my parent's dog. I think I'm more nervous at how my dad is going to "train" this puppy since he was working at the time Sasha was a pup so he wasn't around for the training process. I say go for it. Yorkies are the best especially more than one! |
Taking on a new puppy will always leave a responsible owner with mixed feelings because we know how much work goes into raising a happy healthy well adjusted little dog. so that is very understandable that you're feeling this way. but speaking as someone who has a one year old and is counting the days till i move out and can finally get him a baby sister i say: GET HER!!! it would be so great. i really think dogs but especially these kittle ones benefit from having a sibling to play with and cuddle and all that fun stuff. Good luck, it will be hard but i think its so worth it |
I would do it |
Oh my another puppy with Geno's genes? YES please:laugh:!!!! He is so darned adorable, you really need his baby sister;) ;) ;) Good luck with the decision:D |
Sounds like a great idea :D i always say the more the merrier |
Thanks everyone! It will most likely come down to Geno for the final decision. My boyfriend and I want to set up a day and time with the breeder when the pups are older so we can see how Geno interacts with them. If he shows any aggression towards them, we might have to rethink adding another. I've never seen Geno be aggressive towards other dogs but he's never been around any dogs smaller than him so this will be interesting :) |
Be prepared for a little bit of dominance from Gino. Laddy is the most passive little guy but he was a tad jealous of Kyra when we first brought her home. They are best buds now though :). |

Ziva was jealous and did her share of little unhappy growling, but she also stayed up with Abby all night crate training, letting me know she was sad! It took a month and I did have to cuddle Abby more to let Ziva know she was equal- The "give the older one lots of attention" kind of backfired for us. |
I vote for the PUPPY!! You can ALWAYS take another vacation. Louise |
Talked to the breeder today and told her we were serious about the girl in her small litter. She said she'd give me a call back when she got a minute. Probably won't hear from her for a little while but she knows we are interested so I'm not worried. They're only 2 weeks old right now so we really don't want to see them til they're older...well I would love to see them now but we already know we want the girl so no need in having to go a few times before deciding on which one. Her other yorkie girl had a litter at the end of April that are ready now but I don't even know if she has any left plus we are, or I am, at least dead set on a girl this time around. Praying my little Geno has fun with her when we go to see them! Also dying to see how he acts around his parents! The last time he saw his mom was October at the vet office. Our breeder had her there and Geno didn't pay any attention to her but his mind was obviously occupied with the scariness of the vet office haha I am so excited though! Don't worry, I'll be sure to take lots of pics when we go visit so everyone can see the little babies! :) Also hoping this time around will be a little easier since we know what to expect. |

Take the puppy. Vacations end in a couple of weeks but a puppy love lasts a heck of lot longer. |
How exciting!! I would go for the pup!! Double the yorkie kisses is awesome!! And believe me, if Rosie and Mikki can get along, any two pups can!! :p:p |
I am so excited for you! |
Get the girl! Stick to your guns and get the little girl! I'm so happy with my baby. I've always had male dogs and a girl - for me, for some reason - brings out the little girl in me! Would your breeder let you see the pups before 10 weeks? If not, you could always have pictures emailed. Geno's so adorable - I bet the new pups will be beautiful too. I also think it's good to have a few weeks to plan and prepare for the new addition. Then, you'll be totally ready when she arrives. Best wishes to you and your babies!! You'll all do just fine. |

I sooo cannot wait to meet the little girl! If I don't hear from the breeder this week, I'm gonna call and leave her a message so we can plan a time to go visit. I really want to see how Geno reacts. I already know he'll get jealous cause any time I pet another dog, he has to be right there in my face making sure I didn't forget about him haha |
How old is Geno? Most dogs take to a new puppy even if it takes a wee while. Then the closeness between them is priceless. |

Go for it!:p |
So we're most likely visiting our little Mia on Saturday and putting the deposit down. Well hopefully. I still have to call the breeder and see if she is available during a specific time on Sat. Cannot wait! She said that our little girl is verrryyy outgoing! Most likely won't be able to bring Geno though cause they haven't had their first round of shots yet but we'll be showing him lots of pics and putting pics on here too! :) Also found out that her and Geno have the same birthday so they are EXACTLY 1 year apart! lol We got Geno at 10 weeks which was the first week of August but I think we're gonna see if we can wait until 12 weeks to pick her up. So probably 3rd week of August. So excited! |
Oh my goodness, it's getting close now:D!!!! Good luck!! |
YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY!!!!!!!  :D |
Cant wait to see pics!! |
