please help i need potty training suggestions!! My little Ariel is now 14 weeks old and not getting the whole potty thing down. We've had her since six weeks and started off with potty pads and she did ok with them for awhile but now she's just going everywhere. After I take her outside she will go potty inside too! Please help any suggestions will help. |
I understand totally where your coming from Prissy and Bentley have done the same thing and they are now 5 months old as of yesterday. Now Bentley has started to lift his left leg and this worries me more than the pee on the carpet. I think we have purchase every carpet cleaning product that Bissell has to get us through this stage everyone say that it will happen all of a sudden, I hope sudden comes sooner than later. |
We have the same problem with Hope. She will do great...we have a play pen and during free time leave the door open. Most of the time she will run to the potty pad when she has to go but there are times when I think she's just got an attitude and pees outside the pen just to get to me. grrrrr Good thing she's stolen my heart. She's too cute to get mad at. |
Your puppies are still very young so it's going to take lots and lots of positive reinforcement and consistency before you'll be able to say that you think they are finally trained. I can remember our girls doing well for awhile and then sadly relapsing and it really did get frustrating. When you can't watch her closely I would gate off other areas with your house. You can use an x-pen too. This is so the area is smaller and less confusing if the pee pads are close at hand. Gradually I moved the pee pads to the back door where they are now and the girls go outside and or on the pee pads. I think that they associate the pee pads with outside since the pads are so close to outside door. Good luck and I hope things get better for you as time goes on. :) |
Thanks Cory....we live in a split level house so it's difficult to move her pee pad near a door. We are hoping to move in a few years and told hubby next house needs to be all one floor. Never thought I'd be choosing a house based on my dogs needs before mine. LOL |

An x-pen is one of those exercise pens where you can put there bed and toys and pee pad in if you can't watch them or if you're away from the home. They are also good for outside and to close off a large doorway where some gates won't fit. We use it for that in our house sometimes and it's very handy. I find that yorkies really respond well to praise. So if I would see them go on the pee pad or when I had them outside I would just go crazy saying good girl, over a few times and clap. Ha ha ha...people probably would think I'm nuts if they overheard me but it works. I will also say the word pee pee to them or poo poo although some will say potty when they go and now they all go on command when I say this. The reason I say the two commands is because the girls are so smart they know one from the other. ;) Even now when my girls go outside I still tell them good girl Mica, Maggie or whichever one is going. I constantly reinforce this with them. |
Is it easier to potty train the girls than boys. I believe Prissy would of been all trained if it wasn't for Bentley, cause there is times she will go on her own, but most of the time she goes behind him. Poo Poo eating is another issue how did you break that? |
My little girl is a climber so the expen doesn't work for her. Have to use the playpens that have a mesh top or she gets out. |
