I found a tick on Milo We use frontline on our outside dogs. I haven't put it on Milo because he sleeps with us. He takes a pill for fleas so I don't worry about fleas but I did find a little tick on him this morning. I try to check him but now that his hair is longer and thicker it is harder. Any suggestions for ticks. I can't have my baby getting ticks on him. |
I always have Fido shaved down completily, so if he gets ticks or fleas I will see it right away. |
I don't use tick medications on Gracie. I do use Advantage II for fleas but would rather avoid adding another chemical. Last year our cats were getting ticks because they go out into the woods and fields nearby and those are favorit places for ticks. I purchased Frontline Plus for the cats because that was the only topical tick medication for cats. Well, the ticks seemed to thrive on the stuff. The cats would come home with fully engorged ticks on them! Gracie got a tick on her that must have gotten there from one of the cats. So I started meeting the cats at the door with a flea comb. You can catch any unattached ticks with a flea comb. Ticks are much harder to crush than a flea is though. So I spent the summer with the flea comb and tick puller by the back door. I only walk Gracie on the sidewalks or pavement. She does play in the backyard but it is kept mowed and we have had no tick issues out there. The ticks like to get up on tall grasses and bushes and wait for a warm body to jump down on so I keep Gracie out of the woods and fields. We have had a lot of rain lately and we have not had any ticks. They seem to thrive the most during the hot dry parts of the summer. They also come in cycles. A tick has three to four life cycles. They are nasty little icky things! I have heard that the Advantix works pretty well on ticks. |
I use Revolution for Oscar. It covers fleas, ticks, heartworm, internal parasites.. He has been on it since 11 weeks and never had any issues.. |
A couple of summers ago the ticks were horrible...I even found a couple on me:eek::eek: I added a tick collar to the guys ( this was pre remy) and it worked! |
Jackson is constantly outside and in tall grass, and woods, etc, so I do use K9 Advantix for him. It's not my favorite choice - I prefer less chemicals of course so I try to spread the doses out and *not* give every month. But honestly with the way ticks are around here in the summer (and I hear fleas/ticks are bad ALL around this season due to the unusually warm winters a lot of folks had)... we have no choice. |
We have a tick problem too. I called the vet and the products they sell have a 5 pound weight requirement. Does anyone have any suggestions? Khloe is 3.7 pounds. They suggested that I treat the yard, but we have woods in the back and our backyard is too large. |

We have ticks BAD here! I was using Vectra 3D. But I was still getting one or two ticks a month off the girls. I HATE ticks. So we had our yard treated. I haven't had to use anything on them since then. |

Awesome! Why didn't I think to look for something on amazon! Gonna pick up one. And now he won't go running at the sight of tweezers, lol. |

Take him for a walk today and see a flea running around when I brought him back in. I put the Advantix on him tonight. Now sitting here worried after reading posts about reactions. :( |

Brisket kept itching and acting funny, he went over and laid down by door and he never lays there. He dry heaved a few times and that was it. Maybe paranoid mommy, but saw too many online reviews of terrible reactions tonight. I just gave him a bath w dawn soap. Now he's sleeping in my lap. I feel so bad. |
I have never used Advantix but I have used the Advantage and Advantage II. Never had a problem with it and found it worked well on fleas. If you are using the right kind for his size you should be fine. I have found that keeping a flea comb handy has helped a lot. I comb through Gracie as soon as we come in from outside to catch anything that she could have picked up while out there. You can't see the bugs that have already gotten to the skin level. I run the flea comb through my cats when they come in as they are the ones who tend to pick up ticks. Sometimes they have the tiny unattached ticks on them that have jumped on them when they go through the tall grass that is out beyond the woods. |
