the car I am curious about the car situation with my little girl, I tried to put her in a car seat that sat up high and she started shaking and had an accident all over it, strapping her in a seat belt is just as bad...ewww, so she sits with me, but I am starting to feel that it's getting more so dangerous, the bigger she gets and I'm not even really sure what the laws are? just wondering how to handle this? |
In my opinion they have to be in their own car seat fastened to their harness. When I first got my baby I held her on my lap for her first short car ride and I was a nervous wreck by the time I got home. I kep thinking, what if I am in an accident and the window breaks? She would surely get run over by another car. After that I bought a car seat and she is always fastened in. She didn't like it at first, but I put my hand over to her and she soon settled down. She still isn't in love with it and always hangs her head over the side by me, but she is fine and I feel so much safer. We have gone on 5 hour car rides and she has just gotten used to it. Maybe she would feel safer in a carrier that is strapped in? Also let her get used to the car seat in the house, put treats in it and make it a fun place. Just please make sure your baby is strapped in when riding in the car. The other thought I had was what if she decided to get on the floor under the brake pedal while I was driving. She could be crushed to death. We just have to protect our babies even if they dont like it. |
A dog should NEVER be in the front seat while you are driving as many dogs are killed by the airbag going off , even in a little fender bender. It is better that she shake & mess all over herself & her car seat then be smashed to death be an air bag, IMO. |
Should add that I actually have my passenger air bad shut off, but that is a very good point. |

d-bo, have you tried having the carseat in the house for a while, let her sniff around it and even sleep in it. Put a few treats in there so she'll see it as a good place. If that doesn't improve things, you might have to sell this seat and get one that does not sit so high. She might be scared of everything she's seeing, or the movement. If she is siting where she can't see as much, she might feel more secure. Also, if you have a small crate for her, you could also strap that in with the seatbelt and use it until you can get something else. Be sure to toss a comfy blankie and a favorite toy in whatever you're using;) Good luck, I'm sure it's not fun cleaning up the carseat or the car after she's gone potty in there:( |
yes, I will have to try it again, your right, I am just going to have to get tough with her and make her stay in it, I wasn't really feeling good about the way she rides in the car but I just wanted to know if others were making them stay strapped in, thank you for the advise. |
Do you have a carrier you can put her in? If she is afraid then putting her in a carrier might make her feel more secure and she wouldn't be seeing all the scary sights that are bothering her. Of course now that she is accustomed to sitting on your lap she is going to have to get used to a new set up. |
Poor girl... My two didn't like their car seat to start out with. Khloe would shake and act like she was carsick. They eventually got over it and realized that they didn't have a choice and now they enjoy looking out the window and cuddling together :) |
I agree that it is so hard to be tough on our babies even though it is for their own good. I hate making Zoe do anything she doesn't want to do. Good luck to you. |
My two go in their crate in the car. It straps to the seat belt. They sleep until we arrive where ever we go. They go in and out of it in the house do are comfortable using it. I feel safer with this cause if anything is thrown around the car in an accident they are inside it and won't get hit. |
