Brody met his first bee.... O-M-G! I was walking Brody and Sophia outside and Brody started shaking his head like he does when he has a leaf. I casually reach down to grab whatever he has and there is a huge bumble bee on his chin!!!! I panicked!!!! I picked him up and realized I had no idea what I was doing, so I put him back down and I started smacking the bee with my hand, but it was still there! I think it got caught in his chin hair! Then I realized I only had one leash in my hand and I couldn't find Sophia.. I FREAKED out looking right and left and she wasn't anywhere to be seen. Then I realized she was in between my feet staring at me with her tongue out . Now that Sophias accounted for, I start smacking Brody's chin again and the bee was nowhere to be seen . I think it flew away?!? Brody is just sitting there tongue sticking out as happy as can be. Anyway, I pick both pups up and sprint as fast as I can inside. I triple checked his mouth/chin and there isn't anything there. I'm going to be keeping my eyes on him, but I think we escaped that situation unharmed. PHEW. My heart is still pounding!!! |
SO GLAD no one was stung, or ran away, Sarah!! I had a similar situation when Tulsa first came to us this past January. I had both girls out on the leash in my backyard, when Tulsa got tangled (or so she thought) in the legs of our grill. She paniced, and pulled OUT OF THE HARNESS, and took off down the driveway headed for the street (eeeeek!) I completely lost it, and dropped Abi's leash. Didn't even notice until after I got Tulsa back. Miss Abi was sitting where I dropped the leash, looking like: "ummm...Oookay, what just happened?" LOL |

I'm so glad that all is well, how scary:eek:! |
Wow, I can imagine your panicked reaction and both Brody and Sophia thinking "hey, mom's playing a new game with us". I've had a couple occasions where a fly would enter the house - of course Romeo hears the buzzing before I do - and he runs around barking as if the sky is falling. Then when I kill the fly he looks at me like "why did you do that, I was having fun chasing him around the house"! |
AHHHH Poor Peanut!! I didn't even think about the little critters being on the ground. Just another thing to worry about when walking the pups outside!!! Brody's favorite toy is a bumble bee, I'm convinced he thought the real bee was a toy because it was so big and fuzzy![/QUOTE] I know, we have sooo many things to worry about with our little ones. DH jokes that he is going to wrap Peanut in bubble wrap one of these days!! Might have to change Brody's favorite toy to a Lil Duck or something!! Hehe |

We tend to get bees near our deck & front door. Is there any bee killers that are the safest to use? |

Ducks are no good either Quote:
Oh no, don't get me started on the duckies! Hepburn and I were on a boat ride on the Spree River and I kept talking about the duckies (he has a duck toy that we called duckie). Then he actually saw one and went launching out of the boat to get it! The boat was low, almost so that where you sit is level with the water, so it was right at his nose. I freaked out, but my friends were all laughing. It was, in the end, pretty funny. He didn't actually make it out of the boat and the duck was more scared of him than anything else. Also, I would have flipped if this were me. I have a terrible fear of bees. Glad all are ok! |

We have a little pond by my house I always walk Peanut to, well he was "pointing" at a duck in the pond, I told him you are going to fall, he was getting really close to the edge- Sure enough -KerPlunk!! Into the pond!! :D |
Oh my! I think they can sense when we get really panicked, and bc it's so unusual (hopefully), they just stay bc they don't know what to do! As for those huge bees, the males are usually the ones out flying about, and they do not sting. The females are capable of stinging but at this time of year, they are usually found in their caves... or holes in wood fences or decks are fav places for them around here. I also see alot of dead/dying ones... I think they get old and pass on... those are the ones I find sticking to my pups coats. Glad no one was hurt or escaped! |
wow glad he did not get stung, not sure what type of reactions they might have. Just yesterday I was watching Lola running around crazy and happy in my Moms back yard around her rose bushes and then I spot her source of happiness, bumble bees flying around and she has her mouth open trying to catch one. I quickly scooped her up and got her out of there. The poor little thing would not know what hit her if she swallowed one. I know dogs do that because it seems like all my yorkies have tried to catch the bees that buzzed my gardens. I am getting more allergic with each bite, I am afraid with the next bite I might be needing an epi pen. |

Gracie loves to sniff the grass. I have to watch her all the time to make sure she hasn't decided to chew on a leaf or something else she has found. |
Very scary! I'm so glad Brody or you were not stung, and that Sophia stayed at your side. He must be such a happy little boy that he just rolls with all of this, including mom smacking him in the chin. :p I have dropped leashes while trying to get things out of my boys' mouths. Strangely, they have stayed with me, like Sophia did with you. |
