Newbie Hello Everyone! I wanted to start off by saying this is my very first post, and I feel completely lost so if I am doing this incorrectly please give me some pointers! I have 1 Yorkie that turns 3 on the 11th of this month. His name is Oliver. He is everything and more than we ever wanted in a dog. We did go thru some hard times with the breeder though. We purchased him from YorkieAngel.com. I'm not sure if any of you are aware of them but they were shut down about a 8 months after we got him for many of their puppies dying after going to their new homes. When we took Oliver home we took him to the Vet the very next day for his checkup. Besides fleas he checked out alright. Within a day afterwards he showed severe symptoms of kennel cough that had him on meds for weeks, he also tested positive for Giardia which we had to go through 3 rounds of meds to take care of. Then I had issues getting his AKC registration from the breeders. Anyway, they went to jail and we got our vet bills paid for after a class action lawsuit from all the people who lost their dogs or had sick ones. We are ready to bring home a new Yorkie now, and needless to say after the first experience I am very worried about having a similar experience. I have been looking at pups on Tinyyorkiekisses.com. I've emailed back and forth with the girl who owns it, and everything seems legitiment..although it did the first time too. Has anyone had any experience with Tiny Yorkie Kisses? I'm choosing them because they are within driving distance (as I did with my first Yorkie) prices seem fair, and according to her Facebook page, she has a lot of happy and satisfied families posting thank you's. If anyone knows anything good or bad about Tiny Yorkie Kisses, please let me know!! Thanks! |

I would say to ask for health screening papers. Also she refers to some of the puppies as teacups and she only offers 1 year health guarantee for genetic defects which gets me concerned. |
Thanks for the advice! Thanks for you ideas. I will definitely do a little more research on the breeder before making the plunge and sending my deposit. Thanks for the tip on posting in breeder section. Will do! I still haven't gotten the hang of this forum down! :) |
Just wanted to say HI and welcome.. Im fairly new here also. This place is a great place for info and help, suggestions. |

Welcome to YT:) I'm sorry you went through so much with Oliver, and I'd hate to see you have a repeat of that:( This is my opinion, so take it for what it's worth as a long-time Yorkie owner and lover. GOOD breeders DO NOT sell over the internet. They just don't. They care about where their pups end up, and that means actually meeting the people, checking their references, etc. You would want to see where the puppies are raised, as well. Please do your family a HUGE favor and read as much as you can here, and also check out the YTCA Breeder Referral page here Yorkshire Terrier Club of America About The Club There are breeders in every state. It might take a little longer to get a puppy from a reputable breeder, but that's because they breed thoughtfully, unlike the greeders that breed as much as they can. A good breeder will work with you if there happens to be any health issue that comes up, though it happens less often when the pups are from a good breeder. Buy your breeder first, then the pup. Good luck in your search:) |
Thanks again. I will certainly ask if I have any more questions! Gosh, poor Diggy! It's a good thing he has you! I think the reason I'm so nervous is because I really feel like the first time around I DID research! I talked to the breeders for a good 7 months through email and phone before buying! Instead of having them ship him, I DROVE 7 hrs each way to pick him up at their home! I met them! I saw where they kept the puppies! They answered all my questions! They even answered my phone call and kept me calm and walked me thru everything when just 20 minutes after I left my Oliver started throwing up in the car on the way home! It wasn't until I called them with the bad news of Giardia and kennel cough that they started avoiding me. Then when I finally received his AKC papers (after asking a million times for them) he wasn't even bred by them! He came from Missouri! I was SO shocked because they told me THEY were the breeders and even had his "mom and dad" on site!! Anyways, I really feel like I did everything you are supposed to do the first time. I guess this time I will just do the same, and ask around even more! What else can I do? |

Everyone here will be glad to help. When you find a breeder that you think fits the bill, post here and let us all help you check them out. Many heads are better than one;) You did everything right the first time, they just are good at fooling you. All sugar and spice until they've got your money, or there is a problem, and then they turn into jerks:( You won't be so easily fooled this time. Sounds like the last time you dealt with a broker. They get pups from multiple breeders and sell them at a huge profit, doing the very minimum in care until they can "unload" the pups. Just be patient, take your time (I know you did last time too, but this time you have YT behind you). The perfect new pup is waiting out there somewhere:D |
