On my anniversary 5/24/12 Allergic reaction story. Amara had an allergic reaction. I almost died. Everything swelled up. Her eyes. Her genitals. Her muzzle. It was terrible. I took her where I always took her to play. In the field above my apartment. But today something was different she came in itching but the grains in her food make her itch. So I was like "boo boo you wanna have an oatmeal bath?" She went and drank her water like normal. And I was hungry so I fixed me something to eat. And when she came to ask for some of my food. I looked at her. My mouth dropped. Her eyes were the size of large strawberries Her ears were on fire and extremely red. Everything on her was red. She had red spots on her belly. It was terrible. I took her to the Emergency clinic. Cost me alot of money. But I'm glad she was ok. They told me to get some children's Benadryl for her to help with swelling. They gave her like a steroid. I can't really remember exactly what she said I was in a panic. But she's doing great. I got some Acana for her to try. Right now We're trying the Pacifica. She went wild for it at first. But now she's like Well having this again for dinner. I'm just glad she's ok. Her passage ways in her nose had started closing up. She would have to open her mouth to breathe. Seems like we couldn't get there fast enough. I'm terrified to let her in the grass though for too long. I'm taking baby steps to see if anything irritates her. And its sad because she loves the grass. I think it was some kind of weed that she ran into. She doesn't play in that field anymore. It had never happened before. |

How scary! I'm glad you got her to the emergency clinic so quickly. I find it hard to believe that the grass is what caused it if she's played in the grass before and didn't have a reaction... I wonder if she got stung by a bee or got into something else? Hopefully you'll be able to figure out what she's allergic to... |

I agree, it sounds like a Bee sting reaction to me. Although , in fields you never know what lurks there, a spider, red ants, wasps and many other creatures:eek: FYI Bee stings are accumulative meaning they can get worse with each sting so check her very well when you bring her in each time & give her the Benadryl ASAP if you notice any problem whatsoever. |

wow that is very scary. hope whatever it is she doesn't encounter again. glad she is better phew....you might wanna keep that childrens benadryl on hand at all times just in case. so glad she is ok!! |

Could there have been something sprayed on the grass like weedkiller or fertilizer? That was WAY to close. |

Oh my how scary but so glad that she is ok, there is so much to worry about. |

That is so scary:eek: So glad that she's okay, omg!!!! Thank goodness you were home and didn't run out for something after bringing her in! Geez, maybe we should spread the word around here that when bringing your dogs in, to stick around for 15 minutes or so to make sure they haven't encountered anything while out on their walk. You must have freaked, I know I would have been in a panic! I would definitely avoid that particular spot anyway, regardless of what may have caused the reaction. If it wasn't some kind of sting or bite, it might have been some kind of chemicals and you won't know if they use that stuff again in the future. Might be time to find a new place to explore, perhaps walk around without Amara and look for anthills, bee's nests, pest/lawn company flags, etc. |

that's a very scary situation, I'm glad she is coming along fine |

Very scary indeed, so glad she is ok! Do keep a close eye on her from now on, as a 2nd reaction could send her into anaphylactic shock. Bayleigh has had similar reactions twice now, so I totally understand how you felt. I keep a 2nd vet clinic on call within a couple miles from my house in case of another severe reaction. As soon as I see her eyes swelling, I only have about 10 minutes to get her somewhere fast and oral benedryl will probably not take effect soon enough to count on that. Also watch for vomitting after the eyes swell, that could be an indication of an anaphylactic reaction. |

Hi. Everyone. I think it was a weed. They don't use anything up there. Its just a field. All they do is cut the grass. There was a lot of weeds up that day. And I always let her get her energy out on bath day. It was terrible. |

I don't think I want to find out what she's allergic to either. But then again I need to find out what she's allergic to. |
