Hello! I'm a new yorkie mom and new here! I just wanted to say hello! We got our first Yorkie just this past weekend and he is a doll. Though I am now having a few potty training issues, I think with all the help on this board, we will make it! My little mans name is Cappy (short for Cappucino). He is 10 weeks tomorrow! I knew it was fate when we found out he was born on our wedding day! He really is a good little pup, but he does stay home by himself 6-8 hours a day....at least 3 times a week. He seems to be doing okay with it....just very hyper and excited when we get home! I have yet to start crating him, but have him penned in a sizeable area in the kitchen....he hasn't seemed to get the hang of pee pads yet! If anyone has suggestions on that, he is really good going outside...goes immediately.....but I am trying to focus his training on the pee pads..... I look forward to posting some pics of him soon! He is going to be a tiny one I think, just about 2lbs now at 10 weeks!! I look forward to learning from all you experienced Yorkie owners!! |
Welcome and congratulations! The training takes time. There is a lot of good advice out here on this. |
hello there and welcome to yorkie talk, im gina, so glad you joined, and yes you will learn so much on this site as it did.. enjoy.. by the way i love his name |
:wavey: and Welcome! Everyone is so nice and helpful here, you will love it! Congrats on little Cappy! Can't wait to see pics! |
Welcome, fellow New Englander!! Cappy is such a cute name! |
Welcome! Hi and welcome to YT! He should get the hang of the pee pads... I guess he wasn't trained on them.... my pups leave here trained to do their business on the pee pads. I love his name... will your next yorkie be named Expresso? :D :D :D Enjoy the forums! :) |
Cute name :) On the training, I'd say pick one or the other....outside or pads. It's too confusing for babies to try to do both. Also the area you have him confined in may be too large, you might want to make that area smaller. There are quite a few posts w/ suggestions regarding potty training, w/ tons of great tips. Good luck!! |
Welcome to YT. Can't wait to see pics of Cappy. I love his name Cappuccino, so original. Regarding poppy training, be consistant and patience. Take him to the pad so he knows where it is and praise him when he use it. You can find a lot of great info reading old threads. |
Congratulations and Welcome!!! |
Welcome Hi,Welcome to Yorkietalk. Congrats on your new baby. Great Name!I am new here as well. Send pics of you and Cappy.Kathryn and Vivi |
Hello CappysMom and Welcome to YT!!! :) The way we trained Aria to use puppy pads is by praising her (verbally or by giving her a treat) everytime she used it. No punishments if she has accidents. Good luck! |
Welcome! You will love it here! |

I'm glad you found us! Congrats on your new Yorkie. Prepare to lose your heart to him... Personally, if he was mine and he was doing well with pottying outside, that's what I'd really encourage and reward (treats and praise). I'm assuming, of course, that outside is your ultimate goal. It won't be too long until he'll be able to hold it long enough to go exclusively outdoors. If you're wanting him to go inside (due to winter weather, etc), the first thing I'd do is wipe up some urine with the pee pad and leave the soiled one out for him to smell. You might do a search (in the blue bar above) for "pee pads". There's been alot of discussion about the best way to train using them. Again, welcome! |
Welcome to YT!~ Cappy is such a cute name. I can't wait to see pictures! |
