What is the process and timeframe for adopting from Yorkie Rescue? I have applied for a dog through Yorkshire Terrier National Rescue Adoptions and Shop. I answered the 70 questions and applied on 5/26 and have not heard one word from them. Through their newsletter, I found a phone number for them. I have called on two different days and left messages with no return of my phone call - I even told them they could call collect if need be. Have you ever adopted from Yorkie Rescue? Am I being too excited/anxious? I do not even know if the dog is still available. Wouldn't they do an initial contact with me before they started an investigation as to my suitableness? |
I'm sure they must get a number of applications for adoption. I would think it might take some time for you to hear from them. Also remember we just had a holiday weekend. I hope you hear soon about the little one you want to add to your family. |
I really don't know about the time frame, but good luck:) From what I do understand, it does take a little time for the process. I believe it's all volunteers, though, so maybe no one has had time to contact you yet. |
It can take a while... Remember, you probably aren't the only person applying. I know a lot of rescues won't contact you if they see a problem in your application. I know there were two people who applied for my first foster who were not contacted because one was really old and the other had a pool without a fence around it. Good luck in your search! I know it's not always the easiest process, but rescuing really is the most rewarding way to get a dog :D |
Rescues are very thorough with their screening process. I'm sure you would provide a great home to this dog, but often rescue dogs have special needs. If they don't feel you fit the special needs of the pup in question, they will not contact you. Don't take it personally if they don't contact you. They are looking out for the best for the dog. When the time is right, you will get one. |
You would think a rescue would be more prone to getting back to you- I remember a long time ago when I still lived at home -my Mom and I went to adopt a kitten, Well everyone we wanted, was not ready to adopt… or wasn’t “available” it was some excuse- Luckily when we left a lady came in with a Siamese mix in a pillow case- So we took her! :D I bet you are frustrated with how long you have been waiting.. I would try to call someone else in the office see if you can get in touch with someone!! Good luck!! |
It really depends. I just adopted from another place and it was fast but it was just a good match. Sometimes it's not about you but what the dog needs in a home. |

While I realize rescues are not usually businesses it would seem that they would at least acknowledge your application with a short email or something. Maybe apply at more than one rescue. They all have different ways of dealing with people and a different supply of dogs that need homes. If you go on "pet finder . com" you can search for various rescue agencies in your area or within how ever many miles you are willing to travel. |

The I do Vet Reference Check, IF that does not go well then a letter is sent to them telling why the application will not move forward. So the whole application can at times take 1-2 weeks. You also have to remember that Rescue Groups are all Volunteers and most have job's, families and Fosters. So while it may seem like a long process, all checks and balances have to be done for a reason. We want the very best homes for the dog's we can find. I still can't understand why they haven't sent you an email letting you at least know the application was received. But all Groups work different. |
I'd give it a little more time. I also would not be interested in working with a rescue that takes weeks to respond or does not respond at all. Your time is important and so is the fact that you start to become attached to a pup after seeing it. Different rescues have different styles. Some are bery picky. Others are not.. Some take teir time placing each dog. Others just want to get as many as they can off of death row.. It is all in what each rescue feels is most important. The yorkie rescues do seem to get a lot of very sick dogs, soit will be harder to place them. Anyway, if you get tired of the waiting thing, there are rescues wuth yorkies that would adopt out very quickly. Actually, the place we got Ry from has one now...unless he has been placed.
