:animal-paWe are thinking about taking our yorkie on a trip sometime this year. But we never taking a dog with on a vacation before. So what are something that we need to do and take with us to make it an easy one for all of us. and thanks for the help.:aimeeyork

Research your destination. See what requirements they have when traveling with a pet. I know some destinations like Hawaii, pets are not allowed. Then, research your airline. What kind of transportation do they offer for your pet? Is in cabin available? Research where you're staying. Do they allow pets? Do they charge a fee per night or per stay? Then take steps accordingly.

There r websites that can tell u what pet friendly hotels & events are in various areas, i would research that...

we are driving and we have looked for places that are pet friendly places. But we just don't know for sure what else that we need to take for her.

Water bowls, piddle pads (if she uses them), foods, snacks, plan for pit stops at pet friendly rest stops, (surprisingly, not all are) research the hotels along the road (if you're going to be staying at hotels), um... trying to think off the top of my head. I've taken Kaji places before, and really it wasn't a big issue. Outdoorsy type stuff seems to be a big hit with the little ones. :)

Hi, we just came back home from Virginia beach for memorial weekend with our Truffles.
we did bring food, dishes, treats, toys, blanket, her small bed, pee pads, poo bags, tooth brush, tooth past( she get brush even day :) brushes, tangle spray, shampoo, conditioner , you name it, I brought all. This time we stayed at pet friendly hotel but I noticed some of these hotels charge pet non refundable fee from free - $75 !!!
we found for one was charging $10 and other hotel was free :)
also all the restraint with out side eating area with pet ok places.
we are very lucky to have Truffles is been train for pee pad and out side potty so
first thing in hotel room I did was the find hiding corners where she feel comfortable to go potty on pee pads. I lay 3 pee pads in different area and she picked one by sink and bathroom corner so it was all done!
we stay at 2nd floor and most of dog owners prefer stay on 1st floor for take dogs out easy access but for us was no problem!!

some times nobody around on hall way, we off leashed Truffles and practiced "stay" and "come" for her doggy class and she was running and happy :)

so this time we didn't go to fancy restraints because I could not leave her in room alone! ( you never know who can take my baby!) we did most time for take out and eat outsides. 4th, July will be RVing at camp ground so will be better I hope.

Make sur you bring your current food Incase you run out. Take some form of crate for when you go our and can't take your baby. Bring them comfort items like toys, blanket, pillow, I agree water bottles are a must. I take an extra leash and harness and tons of treats. Pee
Pee pads and take pop bags. Oh and clean up products.
Make sure they have their tags esp their Id tags. I get copies of their shots and last check up I would research emergency vets. I would also Researc ER centers incasee there is a accident. Ask your vet for meds for car sickness and anxiety. I learned good car riders at home may not be long distance

I would also take updated photos and contact info to give to desk clerks you don't want your baby doggie stolen

We really haven't thought about looking for pet friendly rest stop thanks DvlshAngel985 for that idea. we just want to make sure that we have even of everything. I don't want to have to try and find things at the last mins for her.

Oh ask your hotel if they rebuke health records to insure ur little one doesn't get something

A good thing to have on hand is probiotics. I swear, it's magical stuff. Sometimes car rides and stays in strange places upset Kaji's belly. This helps to keep him regular. I only use it if I have to.

I didn't think of taking her tooth brush and tooth past and I am not to sure where we are going yet when or if we are going to go for sure either. I will try to let u know how things go if I don't forget since it will be months from now if things don't change. I just wanted to make sure we have everything in head of time so if I need to get something before we get there then I can do it now.

It's really never too early to plan. It's better to be prepared and have your questions answered now. :)

yes u are right about that DvlshAngel985. since this is our first vaction with one. lot of the time we would leave our other dog that we use to have in a place I can't remember what it is called. but the lady died I think the same year as my dog died if not a year before. and we had to find other one but never got to use that places. but we never left our Fancy by herself the only time she had to be away from me was when she had surgery and that was just one night. and I could say I never like it at all. my aunt watch her a lot for us when we need to go some where that she can't go or someone sit in the car with her or my mom as her while I am at work. so she don't know what left alone mean and we hope that she never does either.

Okay along your route most Motel 6 and Super 8 allow dogs in room. Some do charge a pet fee.

I'm not sure how big your dog is, but if a purse carrier is an option for the dog, then I've found it is really useful. Also the crate for car travel, and if you need to crate in the room.

I always travel with an emergency kit. I just clip kit to the crate in the car. A record of their health and vet contact and emergency contact is also clipped to crate in car.

We usually take our ex-pen as well. You never know what could be lurking under the beds, etc. This way, if you have to leave your baby in the room to go to dinner or something, they won't get let out of the room if someone enters it. I try to prevent that anyway by putting the "Do Not Disturb" sign on the doorknob;)

Also, it's a good idea to bring her usual water for her to drink, or use spring water. Just a little change like different water could upset their tummy, or even make them not want to drink just because it smells different:rolleyes:
