Harnesses I know this has been approached several times. This evening I took Bella on a 2 mile walk with her little small harness on and she pulls alot when we start out. More or less gets me to jog. YUCK. In the process she starts making a coughing sound, not a collasped treachea sound, but the other. I was wonder what harness would be good for a good walk so when she is out in front. And yes I know she should be at a heel when we walk. Thanks. :) |

i think the best harness is one that does not go across the throat. Some examples would be: A step in vest harness buddy belt, which is a popular one. Choke free shoulder harness |

If you don't want to jog with her you could try what I did to get Harley to do a "heel" infront of me. I would walk with him and if the lead tightens I stop. as soon as the lead loosens (ie he comes back to me) I start walking again, and "click" or say good, the reward is the ability to move forward again. You wont get very far the first week in walks, but now he only pulls when he's really excited, and even then he'll usually return back to position really quickly I usually only have to stop once a walk. How close of a heel you want will determine how close to you they should come before you start walking again. With Harley I only want a loose leash, he doesn't need to be by my side, so as soon as the tension leaves I start walking, if you wanted a real heel you'd wait for them to come all the way to you. |
I recommend the Buddy Belt. It's pricey, but it's worth it. Also, it seems very well-made. |
Harness I use the Easy Walk Harnesses on my Cavaliers and they are great! They were awful pullers before and now they don't pull at all. I haven't purchased one yet for my Timmy, but I will be once he gets closer to his full size. |

yes , the buddy belts are quite expensive but you can find a harness that is just as good that will fit your budget... i like the little step in vest harness they sell at petco.. they are very cute and secure , only $14.00 |

You definitely want one that does not come anywhere near the throat. I'm partial to Buddy Belts for my boys (and that is why I became a BB retailer). Max's first harnesses from the pet store put pressure around his throat when he learned to pull chasing squirrels and things. |

oh i know what you mean. i got a little nylon harness from the pet store once. i did not like it at all , choked my baby. |
Bella harness she wears now apparently is right below the throat, just enough to bother. I have looked at the buddy belt harnesses and that looks good. It'll be a couple of days before I would place an order. I just want her to be comfortable. She just turned 4 and I am hoping for a nice long life. Sometimes we just got to pay a little more for comfort. I live an hour away from all the good pet stores, but I will go on their sites and see what I can find. |

Thank you. :) |
I live just north of an Amish community. I am now wondering if I took a picture and Bella to the saddle maker if they could make a harness with the Buddy Belt style. Draw back would be, it probably wouldn't be a pretty color. |
