First Day Home Hi Yter's! i like to hear your opinions on what i should do about our first day home with our little pomeranian girl who is coming home on June 8. For her big travel day to her new home - she is taking a 20min plane ride to get to Vancouver (this will save her having to spend 3 hours on a ferry from Vancouver island inclu. multiple transfers). and then she has about an hour and a half car ride home with us. My question is - do you think i should have someone look after Brew (our almost 1 yr, neutered, 11lb male) for that first day home??:questione i don't want to shock the poor girl. but i also want her to realise that this is her home, and this is how we work in it as a family. what would you do? (my parents have no problem what-so-ever in taking him) sidenote: i do have an x-pen and crates to seperate them if need be |
well of course ultimately this is your decision but this is what i would do : get the ex pen all set up before leaving home. take the resident dog along for the ride. introduce them at the nuetral destination. put each in a crate for the ride home. then when you get home put baby in the ex pen with all of her essentials and just leave her be for awhile and let your older dog just check her out.. |

What they said:) Definitely include your dog in greeting the new sibling. I think if he were left out, and then came home to a new baby in the house, he'd be very upset and reluctant to accept her. Can't wait to see pics, I love Poms:) They are so adorable:D!! |

that's a good point. Brew has got to feel like he is still top dog - which he will be. i just didn't want to overwhelm the new girl. thanks for your feedback everyone. i'm glad i posted, because it helped me see it from another angle. i do have a picture of her that the breeder gave me just the otherday. Pippa (that will be her name) - is the little brown and white one (her sister in the back) i'm also taking a week off work so i can really see how they get along. Brew does great with my sisters Chihuahua, so i'm hoping they make fast freinds as well. |
OMG she is precious:love: Sorry, I forgot to say YAY Congrats on the new addition:D! I think that it'll be nice for Brew to have a little playmate:) |
omg, she is a beauty. pippa is a wonderful name.... |
You are from Vancouver?! My husband used to live in Langley and we visit a LOT. We were just up this weekend and will be up again two more times in June. So cool. Now back to topic :p I wouldn't have anyone else watch Brew... He needs to meet his new sister and not feel replaced. They are going to live together, so they need to get to know each other :) |
Thanks Everyone!!! :p i'm in Chilliwack with is about 40mins East of Langley. (1 and half hr drive from Vancouver w/ traffic) Brew WILL be staying with us for Pippa's big day :). i was worried about how impressionable the babies can be, but i know Brewie is a good boy. we will all make it through ok. he's never been agressive or jelous of any dog/toy/food, so i'm sure he will be great with her. as you can see from the picture she has a sister she is used to playing with, so i'm hoping it can be a smooth transistion. i'm sooo looking forward to my week off with my two babies. i'd take this holiday over a trip to Mexico anytime :D thanks again everyone for your feedback and comments. i was saddened when i thought of little Brewie's face coming home and seeing a new baby there without him being involved:thumbdown. i know this is the right decision now. he's my boy, and my family. We will be so happy to grow our family, that i'm sure he'll join right in with our love. |
