microchipping... how does it work? i went to a local petco and they had microchipping offers for like $30 or so which includes "registeration". i looked up the local animal control department and they have low/no cost microchipping for a recommended $10 donation. do i still have to pay extra or something for it to be registered somewhere so that if bunjee got lost my info would be scanned? |
Registration usually extra. For my dogs I had to pay an extra registration fee of $16. It is a one time fee. If I was you I'd go thru the humane society because they would use the chip that they have the reader for. All microchips do not use the same readers. You found two good prices. I had Simon and Nigels done at the Vets and it was $50 for each dog. |
I have not had Cali microchipped yet. The vet said to wait till she was under for her spaying as the needle was not so tiny and Cali was so little. I have also heard from some people on here that their dogs chip moved. Is it still the best thing to do? |
i am with patti our vet told us to wait becaue the needle is "huge" and he wanted to be honest it will hurt her quite a bit....so we are waiting till luna gets some teeth pulled then we will get her microchipped |
I had a micro chip installed in Satch at the vets, the ones at Petsmart and Petco have been called off the market or at least they are supposed to.The vet will put the dog to sleep for the injection,I waited until Satch was nuetered and they inserted it whils he was asleep.I wouldn't let anyone other than your own vet do it. |
There is a fee to register them. Yes, the needle is huge. It's another good procedure to have done when you have them spayed and teeth removed. If you missed that opportunity maybe wait until teeth cleaning or other procedure is done. |
