My poor baby! 1 Attachment(s) I get home from work, let Peanut out of his cage. Take him out in the backyard to run around and do his business- He jumps up on the hillside.. (He is not allowed due to his LP) I start walking over to get him down, he jumps!! He stops and looks at me ( You know that look something isnt right) I pick him up and I can feel his leg is tensed up. This has happened before, so I rub his leg and talk to him... He wants down- I let him down- His leg is back to normal.. Then he goes over and throws up bile!! I go look at his food bowl and noticed he didnt eat- I bring him in and give him some chicken and baby food- He gobbles it up.. He seems like he is feeling better- We go back outside and I go look at his bile I see 2 big white chucks in it.. I thought to myself.. What the heck!!?? I go get something to pick it up.. I put it on a plate and was looking at it.. It is from his TEXAS TOOTHPICK!! He was chewing on one last night for a long time!! I was able to cut it so it isnt hard... WHAT THE HECK!! He is acting fine now, he ate and drank some water. He isnt shaking or acting "sick" he is just laying in the sun (normal Pnut) I honestly don't know what to do..??? I am nervous to give him anymore of those! He has been eating them now for a while and this has never happened before- Thoughts?? P.s The pic makes those things look big- They are about the size of a dime |
I don't know... if it were me I don't think I'd give him any more of them. Definitely keep an eye on him! Poor Pnut! |
Poor Peanut! I had a very scary experience with Teddy and Texas Toothpick. He threw up big chunks of one and then nearly passed out. Part of the problem was that he ate his breakfast/lunch/and Toothpick too close together, and then got overheated on a walk. I didn't like that my guys were swallowing such large pieces. That is cartilage. I stopped buying them. I hope Peanut is all better now. |
Ya I think you are right. I just bought a big ol bag too!! DH just got home and we talked about P- He told me to watch him if he doesnt poo again by tomorrow afternoon then we will take him to the Vet- He just pooed after he threw up, but I am not sure if he has more in him that hasn't tried to pass yet... |

Merrick had a number recalls on their other treats, so that helped convince me too. I forget which one of their other treats we used that was also recalled. It wasn't just the beef squares. |

I didn't know they had a recall- geesh that just confirms my answer- now I just need to figure out what I can do with the bag I bought!! |
Well he seems to be better today- I left him out of his crate in hopes that he poops- If I don't see any poo when I get home from work, I will probably taking a trip to the Vet. He did eat some of his dry food last night and drank some water- Hope that is a good sign :D |
It really makes me wonder about all these "chew type treats"... |
Poor Peanut! The only thing I give anymore is pupperoni and dentasticks because I worry about choking or obstructions |
Geez, just seeing this thread now! Poor Peanut :( I haven't ever bought Texas toothpicks, but I don't think I ever will after reading this... Scary! I'm already paranoid about the bully sticks. I always take them away when they get too small. How is Peanut doing? Does he seem to be okay now? |

Well he did poo yesterday- It was a little soft, I have been giving him canned chicken to make him eat- So his poo wasn't totally normal. He was acting "ok" last night- He wanted to play and run around, and he did drink and eat some of his kibble which is good- This morning he was kinda acting off- sometimes he does act a little strange in the morning so I am not sure how to take him. DH said it was good that he did poo, and it was 24 hours from when he ate the texas toothpick, so I don't think he has a blockage- I think he would be acting way more sick if he did- So today will determine on if we take him in... I want to see him poop again, and hopefully he seems a little better- I think I am over stressing- Dh seems to think he will be fine, but you never know with these little ones, esp with Peanut bc he is kinda dramatic! Haha I can tell you one thing, he wont be getting any more "chew treats" |
