Day and Night walking Do dogs sense a difference between day and night? Ellington seems to behave quite differently on his night walks. He barks, and pulls much more, whereas in the day he is so calm. |
I don't know the answer to that but Max is definitely more wild in general in the evening. He requires more redirection and acts more defiant. |
Its odd isnt it? Tonight he barked at two large labs, yet all the time, during the day he loves dogs. We even went on a dog walk today with lots of unknown dogs and he wasn't fussed at all. |
Yea I guess Peanut acts a little different in the day Vs night- I don’t walk Peanut at night, too scary for me- Never know what’s going to pop out at ya! I would say Peanut barks more at night than in the day- He has a doggy door, that goes into his kennel DH built for him- Its one of those big chain link kennel’s for big dogs, DH put it against the house so he can be protected from anything that would hurt him, but sometimes at night he will be in his kennel and he will just bark and bark and bark- We also have the flood lights so it’s pretty bright out there, I will get up and look and nothing will be out there- Im sure he see's or hears something~ |
Max is more wild and adventurous during our daytime walks, but he's way more chill and relaxed in the evening time. So, maybe they can sense a difference. |
Interesting thread. Bailey sure seems to be a bit more defiant during our late night walks. Sometimes, I have to reel him in and have a little man to munchkin talk. |
Tibbe is more of a night dog, often sleeping a lot during the day & totally comes "alive" at dusk/night. About 9 or 10 some nights, he gets the zoomies & runs all over the house like a lunatic. I notice he's more alert at night, listens more to sounds. But then, maybe he's just reading me - I'm more alert & aware of my surroundings when I'm out at night. They have much better night & vision than humans according to some things I've read & perhaps that has something to do with it when they are outside. Maybe, since many cats & other critters are out evenings prowling & hunting, their scents excite dogs. And since dogs are instinctively hunters genetically, maybe their old instincts to hunt prey are more geared to night hunting when the smaller creatures that are a terrier's natural prey are coming out? I've definitely noticed Tibbe is usually more active on nights just before & during a full moon, as he is before a storm comes. Once the storm is here, he'll often curl up & sleep out the rain & wind. It'll be interesting so see if other's Yorkies behave the same excited way when out nights. |
My babies get up @ 6am with daddie and go on there morning walk which they are excited to go potty and they play. I make the baby take naps during the day we eat go for our second walk and then they play then nap. The last walk of the day is what wakes them up they come in ready to play play play |
