1 Attachment(s) Hey - no worries - you know the consequenses if you get in an accident - are you willing to risk it? There is no such thing as a bad mom honey, only people who don't know they could do a better job until they are told. As you can see we have taken a stand and have no problems with Kali being a codriver: |
Wow, thanks for all the replies! Is there a harness or car seat that can actually buckle up into front seats car seat belt buckle? Bc that would be perfect so he could be harness in the middle between my boyfriend and I, so that way he is safer but still with us. |
I was in an accident back in March, it was pretty intense and the airbags deployed, the first thing that came to mind was what if Roxy would have been with me, I always let her sit in the front completely unrestrained, she could have been killed. That really freaked me out, so I bought her a car seat. I think of her like an infant, would I let my baby ride in the front unrestrained? Never! |
I was in a little fender bender the other day, nothing bad thank God. Just some kid not paying attention to what was happening in front of him. Anyways, Rocky was in the front passenger seat and well he was tossed on the floor. He did not get hurt, but it sure did scare him. I am buying a car seat this weekend for him. I travel alot with him and I don't won't this happening again. I felt so bad. Plus, the kid that hit me was a total jerk. |
Roxie and Rockster's Mom that's exactly why I feel bad for letting him ride upfront with me unrestrained.. I couldn't imagine what I would do if my Harley was hurt or killed in a car accident just bc I didn't restrain him.. But it's really hard for me to find a car seat or harness that I can use on my front seat.. I'll try and post a pic of my front seat so you can see.. |
I am not letting Rocky ride in the front anymore. Plus, I started think about we put our kids in car seats in the back seats, shouldn't we put I little yorkies in them also. |
I highly recommend getting a car seat for all of the reasons mentioned above. Your yorkie is dead if you get into an accident. I'm not willing to take that chance with Olivia. We have the carseat from Petsmart. It has 3 buckles/straps. It sounds like a lot, but is quite easy to unhook and throw in the back seat if I have a passenger in the car with me. I don't remember who mentioned it, but your yorkie would not be hung by hooking him or her into the car seat. My carseat has an adjustable leash hook, so you just adjust the length according to your dog and they aren't able to jump out. Not hooking them into the carseat is no better than not having a carseat- they still have no defense if you are in an accident. Olivia was a little whinny in it at first, but I just reassured her and refused to let her out. Now she usually just lays down or looks out the window. If you do get a carseat (especially the one from Petsmart) throw a towel into it. Olivia got sick in hers once, and whomever designed the carseat decided to throw in a whole bunch of nooks and crannies. I think it took me about half and hour to get all of the puke out of the crevices- let me tell you- not so fun! Please, consider getting Harley a carseat for Christmas this year. What better way to say how much you love him than to buy something to ensure that he is protected?! |
Mine ride in my lap. That way, they can look out the window. If that makes me a bad mommy, so be it! :D |
I usually have Cali in the front seat in a small plastic crate, of course with a nice furry pad and a warm blanket. She prefers to be in there. I just took her to the vet and put her in the back seat after reading info on here. I felt better and she just curled up in the crate and went to sleep. |

Me too - I have to admit! I know it's bad, but Biddy loves to "drive". She loves to put her front paws up on the steering wheel...Sorry - please don't be mad, I know it's bad!! |

I hate to admit - I could be president! |
Lacey always rode on my mom's shoulder while she was driving. I was always too scared to drive with her. But, the last few months of her life, I was forced to. Because my mom went on a cruise with my 3 aunts. So, I had to drive her to the vet 3 times a week for IV fluids just to keep her alive. Luckily, our vet was only 5 minutes away. We tried putting her in the backseat, but she would throw a fit. And she would jump over the seat. We did not want her to hurt herself. We managed 13 years of doing this and never had an accident. Car seats were out of the question at the time. Because Pet Smart and Petco were not finished in Houma until about 6 months before she died. We never even had a crate for her. She would of threw a fit anyway. The only time she has ever been in a cage is when she would go to the groomers and she was waiting for us to pick her up. |
I don't think you are a bad mommy, but I would worry about the air bag. Sabrina rides in her crate in the back seat. I'm afraid the passenger airbag will go off and kill her, and she's just safer there, no chance of getting under my feet, or sliding around. |
