Puppy poo time question??? Penny is 12 weeks old and about 4.6 lbs. She sleeps in the back porch at night now. She eats one "main" meal a day. If I feed her and pick up her food, she only really eats once. If I leave her food down, she still only really eats once. The problem is that she has one small poo during the day. And then has a poo party all night! She usually eats in the morning, so I am going to try and get her to eat latter? Any ideas? |

why is this tiny puppy sleeping on a porch all by herself? she should be eating 3 small meals per day at this age. when my oscar was 12 weeks i fed him 3 times per day , 1/4 cup each serving. try putting a tbs of warm water on her food to encourage her to eat regular meals. that will help with her potty training.. |
If that porch is outdoors it is not safe for a small dog to be left outdoors. Too many prediters like hawks and coyotes. Also there is a high theft rate with yorkies. Also they have hair not fur and cant take temp changes. Please bring him inside |
So sorry- she is inside. The back porch has the washer and dryer (laundry room?) and the doggy door that leads to the back yard. She has a little bed, her food and water is there during the day and her puppy pad. The room opens up to the kitchen, and I have a gate to keep her in the back. |
I'm with Oscar, puppies should be eating at least 4 times a day you need to keep the blood sugar up or hypoglycemia kicks in. Puppies at twelve weeks sleeping on the back porch? get that dog inside in a bed, my puppy didn't come home until he was 11 weeks and he sleeps in a warm snuggley safe bed inside the house with me and his brother. Why is your dog sleeping out on the porch, puppies cannot moderate their body heat so they shouldn't be outdoors unless your back porch is heated and covered and I'm reading this wrong. I'd poop all over your house if you fed me once and then chucked me outside and ignored me, sorry |
Just saw your post about your porch, I rescind my remarks about chucking the doggy outside, but you have to change the feeding |

we just worry about our new little friends. just make sure that you block off the doggy door ok, so nothing can get in and grab her. my oscar was the same size as your little girl when he was 12 weeks. he is now 8 months old and 7 pounds. they sure grow fast. |
I close the doggie door at night. She has just started going outside to pee by herself during the day. I live close to the beach, so there are not big hawks, seagulls yes. The weather is very mild most of the year. I have a small part of the yard gated for her- a six foot by six foot patch that my son and I just put down sod for. She goes out to the big part of the yard when my daughter goes out to play. |

pretty smart. yeah, we have huge hawkes here. i live in woods so oscar is not allowed out on his own... |
keep a close eye on her outside because Yorkies get stolen every day do not let her out alone |
Ah, that sounds better :D But once a day feeding, as everyone has said, really isn't the way to go with a pup so young, even though she's slightly larger :) What are you feeding her on? And really glad you got your sods down.... :D Sally + Harry x |
Are you in Torrance CA? If so, regardless of living by the beach, you do have hawks, seagulls and coyotes in the area. Yorkies aren't really "back yard dogs" IMHO. This baby needs to be indoors and socializing with the family, because she also is a family member. I'm not saying she shouldn't go out but she should have proper adult supervision at all times. Welcome to YT and I hope you stick around and learn more about Yorkies! p.s. be vigilant with the doggy door and locking it. |

She is with me for most of the day and evening. She goes in the car to pick up the kids from school. We go for a walk once a day. I just can't have her in my room at night. That is the only time she has a bowel movement. She has food all day. She only really eats once a day. |
Ok so you are free feeding? Strange that she only eats once a day if the food is down all day...my babies go potty after every meal..twice a day and again before bed. They have frequent potty breaks in between as well...just so there is no confusion. |
