Prissy has very fine thin hair.. Ok, I know I have talked about this before but I need some help..Her hair is very thin and she is very healthy but would it be better if I got her a puppy cut? She never tangles and I always use grooming spray everyday when combing her. She just has this scraggly look and I miss my cute little girl, well she is cute but her hair always looks a mess. I love her dearly and want the best for her. So what should I do with her hair? Has anyone cut their hair when it was thin and they were still young? |
Cut it. I think you will like it. And if you don't it will grow back. It's almost summer so a perfect time to try out a new hair cut. I love when Charlie gets a new trim and so does he. He trots around all confident. Its cute. I say go for it. It's hair. It will grow back. |
Well she will be 8 months the 24th and her hair was so cute when she was younger, ya know that puppy look, I think that is what I am missing. |
I completely understand. I remember when I first got charlie groomed. I was soooo worried about everything. But now I'm at the groomer regularly. He loves it too. He even gets to be in the front crates with all the other "cool" regulars now. lol instead of the back. Its a good experience and they feel so "cool" all cleaned and trimmed afterwards. |
She should grow a beautiful silky coat when she matures.... |
It is so hard to wait out that awkward in between stages. It is ok to cut it . All of mine get summer cuts. She will probably have a beautiful coat when she is mature. Thin silky coats are so beautiful but most dogs don't get that show look before age 2 or 3. Long hair is a lot of work too. I have four Yorkies and it would take hours to keep them all in long coats. |
And one day, you will wake up, and this scraggly little thin coated munshkin will have overnight,(well, maybe NOT quite overnight!!!) blossomed from an ugly duckling to a magnificent, gorgeous, silky coated lovely young lady!!! Cut it into an adorable little puppy cut for summer! If you like that summer cut less than what she is sporting now, good news!......it grows back!!! |
2 Attachment(s) She's looks just like what my Razael did at that age, and by the time she was two, she had a beautiful long silky coat. It's floor length and I keep it that way because she doesn't mat like a cotton coat. You could cut her short if you think she would look better. I put up with Razael looking all "scraggly" for a couple of years. I just kept brushing her each day, hot oil treatments once a month and a nice conditioner. It really helped keep her coat in great condition even while it was stringy looking. ;) Here is her before and after pictures........... |
1 Attachment(s) Prissy's mother has a beautiful silky coat and I can see now that her coloring will probably be the same. It's just that stringy look that is bothering me..Oh and right after I comb her she will roll all over the floor and mess it all up. Here is a pic of Prissy's mommy, isn't she gorgeous? Oh and Prissy goes to the groomer every month and she seems to love it... Attachment 369416 |

Prissy's hair on top is a real light tan now, it looks gray in the ava pic but it has changed. I do think I will ask her groomer when she goes Tuesday, I am just a bit nervous even though Yoshi, my Peke keeps a summer cut. LOL I think when I seen Bellasdonna pic of Bella's new cut is when I got the cutting fever. It looks gorgeous. |
That's one of the nice parts of Yorkie ownership...you get to choose. :D Her hair may be thin and look mussed up now, but even grown out, it's gonna look mussed up a good bit of the time. She's a Yorkie...a terrier. :p Mine look groomed for about 30 seconds after I finish with them after a bath...until I put them down...then, they go 'plowing' and when they get done, you can't tell their coats have ever seen a comb or brush. :p It is difficult to wait out the hair growing stages, and this is where the choice comes in. Prissy is young enough that you can opt for a puppy cut now and grow it in later if you want to. It is hard to imagine what they will look like and so makes choosing what to do agonizing, but it is amazing how good they look in different cuts. I lucked out and found an excellent groomer who talked about it with me and we selected a 'path' to a look we think I will like when the coat is all grown in. But, if you cannot decide, flip a quarter...then put some pix up so we can see what you decided. :D |
DH thinks her hair is beautiful and he said that she is his gorgeous little lady. LOL Like I said i will talk with her groomer and see which path to take. Oh and we go to the beach in a couple of weeks, now just imagine all that sand!!!! Thank you all and yes it will grow out, now to make a decision. |
Just a thought i am VERY new to yorkies but not sand :) I too live at the beach in NC and deal with my sandy skin children... not sure if it would work or even be safe (please weigh in here yorkie experts) but i use baby powder to get sand off of my kids... also my aunt is a hair dresser and she uses baby powder to get hair off of her clients! It is amazing stuff! Do you guys think it would work or even be safe? |
