Thank you Yorkie Talk Over the past few weeks, there have been more than a few threads, about how "bad" in one way or another that YT is. Support that is not given, advice that seems off, judgemental quotes, and this n that. Many newer members here, and just joiners, will not know, nor would I expect them to know, the trials and heart break I've been through. In my mind and heart this is the most caring, most giving family of dog lovers there are. They have helped me in so many ways. Posting support, posting links, posting prose and support, when my girl was dying of cancer. And this was for my girl who was Not a Yorkshire Terrier. When you are new or newish, you don't know these things yet, cause of course how can you? Mayhap you barely know that there are different forums. So I say stay the course, look around at all the wonderful threads that do show love, support. Balance those against what maybe is said in a direct and sometimes hurtful way. IMO there is no other list that not only cares so much, but has so much pertinent and wide spanning information to share. |
Great advice. :) I am fairly new but know the "issues" that you're talking about. Just stay the course and you will find what threads or topics you want to join in. I just look over or pass up entirely of those that get heated. OR....I just get a bag of popcorn. ;) EVERYONE here is wonderful. We are just passionate people with passionate opinions. It's just up to each individual on what subject you want to touch or join in. It's ALL good. :D |
Thank you Gail for pointing out the positives of the forum. |
I am super new Gail, but I was a lurker for quite a while... it was actually your heartbreak that actually made me bite the bullet and join, and your tragedy that made me really want to start posting. Everyone here was just so supportive, and so helpful! There is just so much amazing information here and so many wonderful people... how could I not want to join the party? I'm brand new, but I feel very thankful to have found a place like this no matter what anyone may say. |

Wonderfully said, Gail. :thumbup::thumbup: |
This is such a great message to have on here for the newbies! I believe in taking YT with the good and the bad. I just tend to only comment in positive/funny/helpful posts and ignore the others. I really hope more new members will do so because even though there are bad threads (like any forum) there is so much info and love on here! I have met great people and seen cute puppies and gotten great advice and supprt, those who are rude, i ignore and just keep on keeping on :) |
agreed. i love yt as well...........and there are so many wonderful, caring loving persons who have helped me plenty. i try to think about what a say before i type it. nice post and so glad that you found the support here when you needed it. its almost like i have some friends now thanks to yt!! |
Great post Gemy! I had an account here several years ago. The one thing I learned is that it's hard to be a long standing member of Yorkie talk unless you have thick skin. Particularly if you disagree with the masses. I didn't have thick skin at the time, but I did think everyone was entitled to their opinion and should be free to express it. I sat at my computer and watched quite a few members relentlessly beating up on another member until she finally gave up and stopped posting. I remember the girl was in a real jam at the time and needed some help and understanding. Very few here at the time were forthcoming and supportive. When they finally ran her off, they sat back and wondered what the outcome of the situation was. They never did find out. Just sat back wondering for months. Perhaps, if they were a little more understanding they'd know. I knew, as I'd kept in contact with the girl. But I had no intention of updating anyone at the time. Most of the bullies are either gone or stopped posting themselves. I do wonder what happened to Danica Braggs and lil missy though. I always liked both of them. |
yes.. cried when I received your post about your girl. I have really and trully care for many of my yt friends.. and feel some care for me. Well said Gemy |

The part I highlighted in red hit me the hardest (in a good way), bc that's exactly how I feel too! There is way too much good here to allow anything negative to get the best of us. |

What a lovely, heartfelt post! I totally agree. |
Thank You Gail for this post.You are so right, Yorkie Talk is valuable resource for anyone that wants to learn about Yorkies. I am so thankful for the people that make time to give excellent advice, hugs, information, reassurance, support, sympathy, kindness and tough love when they know it will help. With such a diverse group of intelligent people we do not all think the same way. Not everyone agrees all the time and that is the same in all families and groups of people. I know I set some people's teeth on edge and some people have pushed my buttons too. But, what I cherish is the vast understanding, knowledge and experience we can tap into. I have been a Yorkie person for over 30 years and I learn something new on YT almost daily. I enjoy the stories, photos and sharing that invites me into your life and you into mine. I have found on YT an acceptance for what the majority of the world only sees as 'that weird Yorkie Lady, with the dog stroller and a bumper sticker that says, I love my Yorkies.' |
As always, this was beautifully put. Your insight, wisdom, and your beautiful heart always stagger me, Gail. I lost my little girl almost two years ago, but I grew to care so much about the people here that I have stayed on this forum without a dog in my life for all of this time. Because of Gemy and JacquelineBabco, I have now have a special little girl to love. Each day I have logged on, I see people who really care, and I am always filled with such emotion. I am thankful to YorkieTalk and the special people who I have met here. |
Couldn't agree with your post more, Gemy. YT is a wonderful site of knowledgeable & supportive people with such a passion for the loving care of Yorkies that it truly inspires. Since I've been a member, I've felt as if I have a whole new circle of friends to call on in times of trouble, when questions arise or to trade stories/quips with on fun threads. And the important threads that deal with sickness/injury/life & death issues teach us all many, many things - and not just about dogs. |
I concur! I love YT! :) |
