Im absolutely disgusted... So this evening I was looking through Teakas records for something and I came across her pedigree papers. I have papers for her parents as well. I was looking at the breeders name and decided to google it. Ok rewind about 3 years before I got teaka. I spoke with a lady I sort of knew that I was looking for a small dog. She said she knew someone who's Yorkies bred by accident. So I gave her my email address and she sent me a picture of Teaka. I thought "soo cute!". She looked like a pedigree Yorkie. So I put down a deposit and waited a couple of weeks until she was old enough to come home. I picked her up at my " friends" home and paid the rest of what I owed. I got her papers, she was microchipped, she was already vaccinated and was the cutest lil thing. Now today after I googled the breeders name, a puppy mill site came up. His name is clearly on it and it lists at least a dozen different breed of dogs. I'm mortified. I think about it and I want to throw up. I have tears in my eyes. Could I have really contributed to puppy mills??? Next to his name are pet stores where he sells his puppies too. I even saw where he sold puppies to people and the lady I knew, her name was there. Is Teaka from a puppy mill??? I saw the website and ran straight to her. I picked her up and just hugged her. Could I really have been that stupid? I was told this man had 2 unneutered/ unspayed Yorkies that had puppies. I mean I even have copies of her parents pedigrees. Is Teaka a mixed breed after all?? Now I have all of these thoughts in my head. I feel horrible and stupid. Are the papers I have fake??? I'm sick to my stomach. I'm glad Teaka is here with me instead of being in a cage. I feel about 2 inches tall right now... -Kelly |
It doesn't matter now. Just keep loving her!! |
I didn't know about the extent of puppy mills when I got Callie and it turned out she came from a broker who got there pups from a puppy mill. Now we know better though. |

Same kind of thing happened with our pup, but we love him anyway and pray that with time these things stop happening! |
I understand how finding that is unsettling, but I recommend leaving the past behind you and enjoy the present with Teaka :) You happended upon her and she became part of your family... everything happens the way it does for a reason ;) |
What kind of papers did she come with? Did you register her yourself with the AKC? Now you have her, love her. Now you know better, do better next time. We all make mistakes. |
Even if she came from a mill, she's probably pure Yorkie. Mills produce pure bred dogs, just not typically quality dogs when it comes to breed standards and genetics. Since mill owners don't test their dogs prior to breeding, it's a crap shoot over what you're going to get and how bright the future looks for your baby. I've known more dogs from mills and byb's than from good breeders. Some were sickly and some were perfectly healthy. You just never know. When you go through a reputable breeder for a pet quality dog, you're primarily purchasing peace of mind. Reputable breeders don't make squat off the sale of a puppy. Mills make millions. Don't beat yourself up. Love her. It doesn't matter where she came from, what her AKC papers say or what's in her pedigree. Unless you're going to breed her, none of this matters. I never sent in the papers on either of my girls. I could care less. AKC CAN do something about the mills. It's just more profitable not to, so I won't give them any of my money. |
Many of us have been there and done that. Don't beat yourself up, I'm sure she is a wonderful dog. |
I wonder if your "friend" was really a broker? If she's still doing it, try to warn people about her of you can. Otherwise, there's not much you can do. :( |

I am so sorry to hear what happened to you but at least that baby has a good and loving home. Like someone said just love her and take care of her and learn from our mistakes. We've all made them. Give little Teaka a kiss from Tina, Kayla, Lexi and Dudley. |
It's okay to be disgusted by the actions of a puppy mill and puppy millers. No one would ever be fooled if everyone knew 'before' we need the information. But the bottom line is that you love her and she loves you...she is now in a good home, and her future, which could have been much bleaker, is now one of warmth and happiness, hugs and kisses. Teaka 'found' you by this 'magic' and got 'you' to come pick 'her' up from that place...and I'll bet she's still 'driving' you around! lol {{{Hugs}}} to you and Teaka from all of us! |
We ALL make mistakes....stupid is making the same mistake TWICE!!! You were innocent, and did not do anything wrong or with corrupt intent. You have grown in your knowledge and THAT is what counts! "Scru me once, shame on you,.... scru me TWICE, shame on ME"!!! Love your baby and be thankful she is so loved and living the good life! The money you spent on your baby, think of it as money used to purchase food, microchip and vaccinations...this byb was not ALL bad....she was in good shape when you got her, she was current on her vaccinations and microchipped....dont beat yourself up....this is NOT an example of the worst case scenerio! |
Don't beat yourself up about it. You love your little girl and that's all that matters! |
