New Yorkie Mommy:) Hello Everyone, I am so excited! I will be driving a well worth it 2 hour trip to get my baby boy “Marley” on May 25th 2012. He will be 9 weeks. I have been searching the net high and low, and reading your posts to learn as much as I can. I just wanted to introduce myself; I have a few questions that I will be asking at times. I really would to hear any new mommy advice or tips, feel free to share on this thread. For example, I really want to let my yorkie sleep in bed with me, but I hear once you start he will forever want to sleep with me. I look forward to this new community site. I knew I wasn’t the only one completely infatuated with yorkies. LOL! I feel like the sun is shinning brighter everytime I think of my yorkie coming home with me in a few days. :) |

hello and welcome. oh a new yorkie , that is exciting. yes, once you start letting him sleep in bed with you that's all she wrote. that is really a personal decision. my dogs all have their own bedtime crate which they love. i can't wait to meet your little boy and oh i love the name |
welcome and congrats on your pending arrival! they are the best furr babies ever and yes once they sleep with you it is really torturous to try and revert back. all three of mine furr butts sleep with me and dh. i love it, especially in the middle of the night when my cedric gets chilled and he comes and snuggles right in with me close. |
Welcome to Yorkie Talk. Congrats on your new little one, you must be so excited!!!:) |
Welcome to YT and congrats on your new baby. |
Thank you all! Yes, I am super excited. It's like whenever I have a bad day, I realize my new bundle of joy is coming and I swear my entire day turns around. xoxo |
Welcome to YT. It is perfectly fine to let your dog sleep with you after they are potty trained and when they are old enough to get in and out of the bed (You may need doggy steps) Why use a Crate ? I strongly recommend crate training too. But, all dogs must spend some time in a crate, travel, surgery or illness, or in an emergency. If you teach your puppy that the crate is a good, safe place, and their special little private den, they will not be stressed or panic when they have to be in the crate. Personally I think potty training is much easier if a puppy is crate trained first. |
aww, thats so sweet cant wait to see pics! p.s i love the name (my baby's second name is marley) |
For example, I really want to let my yorkie sleep in bed with me, but I hear once you Welcome to YT! I agree with Teresa, once in bed, your baby will NEVER want to sleep all night anywhere else! And, you MUST potty train BEFORE you allow your pet in your bed, otherwise you'll be in for a terrible time. We didn't let ours sleep with us until she was DEFINITELY housebroken, which took upwards of a year. It was worth the wait! She hasn't had but maybe three or four accidents in the three years since. And those were only because I didn't pay attention to her obvious signals, and paid for my inattentiveness! Your little one will give you so much in return for so little, it just doesn't seem fair. Enjoy the years ahead. :) |
You puppy really should stay with his mom until 12weeks he learns a lot from his mommy up until 12 weeks and the Yorkshire Twrrier Club of Americansays they should also stay with there moms until 12 weeks. |
Thank you all for your comments!! I am so ready! And Mommy has already been taken away. He is playing with his sister until I pick him up in a few days:) |
