a hump? does yorkies generally ahvea straight back or does it have a lil hump? i noticed hershey had a little hump on his back.. its unnoticeble but when i give him a shower, its very visible. im worried that there's something wrong with his back.. but i dont know if this is a normal thing or if there's soething wrong wiht hershey. |
Hi just read ur post and checked Chelsey's back, its straight.... can u tell where the hump is and Hershey's age? i have heard but dont know if its true ok... so dont hold me to it, that if a pup gets picked up the wrong way it can grow a hump... now this could be an oldwives tale so please dont take it too serious, i would check to see if he walks ok and if u really doubt it then i would ask the vet to have a look at him. Have you checked Hershey when he is not in the shower? My Toto kinda scrunches when I bathe her ... doesn't fight her bath, just lets me know that it's not her favorite activity! Perhaps that's all it is. Hope he is OK! Mandy is right, maybe a trip to the vet will put your mind at rest. ;) |
As far as I know having a hump doesn;t cause any health problems. Now, it is out of the standard of the breed so breeders usually don;t use dogs with this problems for breeding cuz i guess it can be passed on?!?!? But like bettyeanne said, check it at other times...maybe its his position during the bath...Mojo does that too :D |
My pitbull(soda) is very old, and she has just started getting humps and cysts and what have yous but the vet has checked everyone of her 'thingys' and its just part of old age. A good vet will put your mind at ease. I have taken Milo(my yorkie) to our vet several times. He just laughs. I'm deffinately a new mother. He is fine. |
But i think kys24 was referring to a hump formed by the dogs back (spine). Some yorkies do have that... |

awwww girl if hes a happy chappy and not showing signs of being uncomfortable i would leave it, but we cant judge from here to see how bad it is, do u have a picture of him to show us? Mandy |
Walking might help...it won;t cure it, but it will prevent from getting worse. I heard going up and down the stairs also help...:) |
kys24: how much does your yorkie weight? Does he have meat on his body? Feed him more food. When I first got my Max, he was very small, skinny and I can feel his spine with the hump in the middle of his back. He was a very finicky eater. Now Max is 6 years old and eating very well so he gained some weight and got more meat on his body, I can't hardly feel the hump on his back. |
