That bath could have gone better- Penny has been home with me for a bit less than 2 weeks. The first Monday she was home I gave Her a quick bath. It went fine. She weighs 4lbs. 4 oz. Today I took her for a walk and then we hung out around the house. I did my nails etc. I had planed on giving her a bath, and by this time it was a bit warm. I got the water warm and put her in the sink, and she freaked out, and started trembling all over. I finished the bath and wraped her in a towel and dried her off while sitting on the couch. She was still trembling all over. I brushed her some and got her mostly dry and took her outside. She played with her favorite toy, but was still trembling. The back door was open and she went in the house by herself. She went in and got her bone out of her bed and was still trembling. I started thinking that I did not see her eat much when we got back from our walk, and maybe she needed some food. I made her some string beans, and stirred them into her dry food that was sitting out. She ate all of them very quick. I thought that she might have low blood sugar, so I gave her a bit of syrup on my finger. It is about an hour latter now and she is napping at my feet and has finally stopped trembling. I am not sure if the bath freaked her out, she did not eat after our walk, or both. I am thinking of next time using the bathtub she might not have liked the sink? I can't imagine what she would do at a groomer? |
i am sorry you and your baby had a bad experience. maybe she was freaked out by the bath. When Ziggy gets scared by something, he also trembles, which can last a long time. Ziggy also hates baths, and will tremble the entire time its happening, so i have decided to groom him myself, i even get in the bath with him and have foudnd that he does better in our (big) shower. I'm not what caused you're baby's trembling but hopefully someone with more insight will come along and help so she doesn't have to go through that again |
Oh do I remember those days when I just got Georgie and was so worried when he started shaking before, after, and during his bath. I also remember trying to analyze what I did and how I could do it better for him next time. He is almost 7 same thing happens minus me analyzing;) I don't think it's the sink I just think some furbabies just don't like to get a bath. While some are resigned to it others like my sweet Georgie boy fight it tooth and nail (literally he scratches to get away from the sink). It takes my husband and I to hold him and clean him (he weighs 4lb soaking wet). I also know that he misbehaves at the groomer when I am there so I drop him off and leave now. Our Boxer Coco loves every minute of it, and I figure we are lucky since she is 75lbs and it would be so much harder holding her than our 4lb fluff ball;) PS I sing to him while I am bathing him he is probably thinking "Look here lady cut the music and get me outta here" LOL. |
I wouldn't worry too much. Rylee acted like that after a few baths in the beginning also. I did the exact same thing as you..............I wrapped her up in a towel and sat on the couch with her trying to calm her. She trembled for quite a long time and even hide in her bed. She still doesn't like baths and I don't like leaving her with a groomer so I have a mobile groomer.............at least that way, she knows I am close by. Now she just goes "crazy" after her baths. Runs everywhere rubbing herself on the couch, the carpet or anything else she runs into...........almost literally!!!! |
Maybe she was cold or it just scared her. I make up songs and sing to Callie and my moms yorkie when I bathe them and it seems to calm them. |
She is fine now-I don't think she is a bath fan. Thank you for helping to calm me. I have only had large dogs before Penny. |
