Tapeing ears Our lil Briony had perfect ears when we brough her home, within a week one has fallen completly. She is 4 months old. I have been looking into tapeing her ear. Is this difficult and will the other fur butt just rip it out? How long should I waite to if it will stand back up on its own, and if I waite too long, will I loose the chance of it ever standing again:confused: |
She is teething thats why they are drooping since they were already up my quess is they wiil go up again on their own |
I understand I taped Ginny Joys because she had the same thing. You can use the Yorkie Talk threads about ear tapeing there are videos too. What I did was pretty simple. I shaved her ears, cut out ear sized card board triangels and used regular clear plastic tape. I changed them every morning. I did this for two weeks. My friend who has Chihuahuas. Told me what she does when she has a pup with a floppy ear, she just folds the ear together and wraps it with a band aid. The band aid makes a tube. Hope this helps. |

I have had my groomer shave down my babies ears to get the extra hair off and just taped them up with clear tape. I leave it on for 3 days and take it off and repeat as necessary.. When the puppies go through teething their ears can droop or fall, usually taping them once or twice will work..:) |
I just taped Penny's ears. I did not want to take her to a groomer, she will be 12 weeks tomorrow. I watched a few videos on YouTube. I did not shave her ears. I cut out a triangle ear shape piece from an index card until I got the size I wanted. Then I cut out four copies of that shape. I used double sided tape to get them to stick to the ears. I sandwiched the ears between the pieces. I used regular scotch tape on the outside to secure them. Then I taped between the ears to get them to stand nice. I will try to post a pic for you. They do come off when you try to take them off. Penny has very floppy ears, and I thought that they would never go up, but they are looking good after four days. Today is bath day, and they need a bit more support, so I am going to tape them for a few ore days. I am not an expert, but this is what I did, and it looks to be working. |
I never used anything cut outs to help support the ears but if it works that's awesome!:) I shave down the ears so that the tape doesn't rip out the hair when you pull it off. I think any woman who has waxed knows how that feels :eek: OUCH!! lol! :D |
With two sided tape it is sticky-it does not "glue" to the fur, I use the scotch tape on the outside, and move the hair out of the way of the scotch tape. I don't have any grooming supplies, and she does not have enough shots to take to a groomer. I am not sure what I would use to shave the ears? |
Since my husband will never see this I will tell you that I have used my husband beard & mustache trimmer to shave down my babies ears! :D I since have purchased a pair of clippers that I use strictly for my fur babies:). I found that If i kept their ears trimmed about half way down while they were teething their ears stayed up. This is what has worked for me, hopefully others will post and say what has worked for them so that their will be a variety of ideas. :) |
