How tall of feeder should I buy for my Yorkie? Gucci is getting close to being full grown. He is 4.5 months. I was wondering what size of feeder should I buy for an adult-sized yorkie? |
I am not sure what size to get but at 4.5 months he is not close to full grown so you might want to wait until he is closer to full grown. |
Well as far as skeletal growth goes, he only has roughly 1.5 months left and filling out after that until about 1y. I know all Yorkies are different, but that is just a rough estimate, he is a standard well bred Yorkie and his parents were between 5-6lbs. He is about 3.8lbs now, so I think 5-6lbs is good estimate of his adult size. Anyways so he should be about as tall as an "average" Yorkie. I was just wondering what size you would buy for an average-sized adult Yorkie just for future reference. |

Measure your dog from the floor to the tip of his elbow. Whatever that number is subtract 2 inches and that is the height that your feeder should be (if you are getting a raised feeder). Jackson is 16lbs and about 9-10" tall and his feeder is 7" high. |
I have 4 Yorkies. The bowl size is not really anything I ever worried about. I use ceramic and I have a set of 12 bowls.( cereal bowls )The bowls hold about a cup of food. I feed twice a day, 1/4 cup kibble and 1/4 to 1/2 cup home cooked. I worry about old food and dirty dishes. I don't free feed. I give them time to eat in their crate, then whisk the used bowls to the dishwasher. I have a several shallow heavy crock bowls with fresh water down at all times. |
Thanks for the information Britster. It was helpful. |
