Yorkie Talk I have been praying for some time and doing a lot of thinking. I do plan to get another female dog soon. I plan to get a Yorkie once I can find a breeder in Ga. My hubby told me I could. With 3 out of 4 of my own kids grown & out the house he knows I miss them. That is why I joined this site to get help & support. But the last two day I have had people that don't know anything about me jump all over me. I really don't understand how some could be so mean. :( But I know that there are people on here that will help me. |
I just don't get why you would breed a mixed dog to make more mixes when there are sooooo many in shelters that no one wants because they are mixes. Just about any animal advocate would wonder that too. I also don't want to support bad breeding when so many suffer from it dogs and humans but mostly the dogs. |

If you are going to make accusations like that it would seem like you would explain HOW so. The only posts of yours that I see that generated responses opposed to you were those regarding you wanting to deliberately breed a mixed-breed dog you have. With hundreds of thousand of mutts in shelters and thousands euthanized every week, why would you expect support in that? |
For one I have had dogs from shelters and loved them just as much as I love my baby now. But I have never thought of a dog being a mutt. I support my local shelter by working there a few times a year as well give money monthly to them. I have been a pet lover all my life. But like so many things in this world that we all don't agree on. I don't go around telling people they are wrong in what they believe in. But like I said I am not on here to make anyone like me. I am on here to learn. But there are so many people making it hard for anyone wanting to learn anything on here. |
I think plenty of people on that thread welcomed you to YT.... myself included. The only question I had was your dogs age. I don't think people realize dogs lives are at risk with breeding. I am not speaking specifically to you but in general. I think people come here expecting no one to say what they think and that's just not reality. I don't even want that to be reality. When I ask advice I want real advice, real answers from real people who tell me what they think. I had a post about rescuing an adult Yorkie and wondering if I should/could having a 4 year old skin son. Some people basically said no you shouldn't and guess what????? I asked and I received. That didn't upset me about YT. We are here (or should be) because we want to do what's best for our furbabies and if someone doesn't think it's best I welcome their advice. It's a great great group here you have some that just say it, others that don't, and some that try to be a little softer about it. I have been a member since 2006 and people here have supported me for that I am grateful. You can learn a lot here people care and that's a great thing. |
Well, that just confuses the heck outta me! You want to breed your dog, yet you volunteer at your local shelter? Don't you see the results of indescrimate breeding while you're there??? It boggles the mind... |

Well, my little girl has been tested and is very health. I do see animals every time I am there that are both mixed and AKC/CKC reg dogs. People are mean that get rid of any animal or don't love one. Mind you I was told that her age was ok and as long it was her 2nd heat it was fine. I can see if I was running around trying to open a puppy mill! I am not. But...like I was saying I am not on here for people to hate me. I do think all of you who have been nice. |

Just curious, what tests did they do on your little girl? |

Have you spent lots of time reading in the Sick and Emergency forum, about all the Yorkies and "mixed breed dogs" that have serious problems? So exactly what tests did your "vet" do? And btw all general vets do not have the "license" to do some of these tests; specialists are needed. BATS easy one your vet can do PRA - nope not your vet an opthamologist must do LP - well if your vet is skilled enough I guess Thyroid - yup your vet can draw blood - of course they should know what specialized testing to order. HD and ED - ooops your general vet can't evaluate on that. Hyperuricosuria - oops nope must be sent into UofD Then there are the pre breeding tests. Lots of info here on the above tests, as well as the prebreeding tests. You can and are always welcome to do a search. Has your girl been evaluated by a show breeder? I forget what breed she is, but you should know. Ideally you will show her to her champioship. Then spend time reviewing and evaluating both her pedigree and the intended sires. Also btw after her second heat which is what I believe your vet said, means she can be bred according to him on her "third heat". Many breed clubs say; Not before 18 months and after her second heat. That means if your dog for some strange reason has had 3heats prior to 18mths you don't breed her on her third heat. There are no short cuts to breeding responsibly. To know the pitfalls, as I said just visit the Sick and Emergency forum, and also read everything in the library |

Forgive the hi-jacking but I just wanted to say that I love gemy's posts. They're so thoughtful and informative, yet tactfully articulated. you may now return to your regularly scheduled 3 ring circus act. |

Come to Yorkie Talk to Learn Teresa Kay, On your first post I replied that it would be good for you to search and read YT's threads in the breeding section. Many of us have very strong opinions about breeding dogs. In fact some of us think very few pedigreed dogs should not be allowed to have puppies. Some of us are upset that you would deliberately breed a dog that is mixed. If you think that is mean, I am sorry, but on a Yorkie site you are going to get some negative feed back about casual breeding. Most of us try to help out new posters so they will want to come back and learn more. I did not know all I do now, years ago. I made many mistakes based on assumptions, not real facts. I found out that the more I learn, the better I can make good decisions. I want all dogs to have a forever home, where they are wanted, well cared for and loved. Many of us work, volunteer, and spend most of our time with dogs. So I would admit I myself, have tunnel vision about some ideas. I have also learned just because I believe something doesn't mean it is true. The more mature I get the more open minded I am to new ideas and information. I hope you will put emotion aside, mean or kind, and just keep coming back to learn all you can. Best Wishes, Teresa |
