Invisable Fence I have a 7 lb yorkie who is a little over a year. I want to install a invisible fence so the kids can play with him in the backyard. I was looking at the Petsafe Deluxe little dog fence barrier. Has anyone used this? Does it work? Thanks! |

I personally would want one because it does not keep animals or people from coming into your yard and hurting or taking your baby |
Yorkies are a hot commodity. Your yorkie could easily be stolen with an invisible fence. It doesn't keep people or other animals out. Heck even with a fence I wouldn't leave my yorkie unattended outside as so many very bad people will steal them. I would not recommend an invisible fence. |
Please please do not get one of these they do not keep predators and people out and they also shock your dog which is cruel and can be to much for a small dog! |
I believe the question is more "is it appropriate for this dog in this case?" rather than "do they work?" I have one, which has been turned off for many years now, but I wouldn't dream of using it with my Yorkies. It was used temporarily for a 120+lb Shep/Lab. It wasn't as much the 'fence' working...it was the 'training' I gave the dog...the fence backed up the training and in the case of that dog, he never again went within 10-20 feet of the fence barrier...never again heard the dreaded beep. lol We tested thoroughly holding the collar ourselves before ever allowing him to wear it and after he was trained about the yard boundary, he was good as gold...but he also never wanted to leave either. He was a rescue someone else performed and we 'helped them out temporarily' which means he lived with us for another 12 or so years after. lol Since we live on a busy road and had not even begun to put up any fencing...and suddenly had this 'temporary' dog, we needed a remedy for a dog who did not 'fear' the road, having sort of lived safely in it for at least 2 or more years. There is no reason I can think of to put a Yorkie in a wireless barrier fence...and many, many reasons I can think of NOT to use one with a Yorkie. Please consider the situation you are trying to solve carefully...there may be a better, safer way for your Yorkie than a wireless fence. |
I agree with the above. While it might work and work well for a large dog - it will not protect your 7 lb yorkie from anyone that might wish him harm - be that someone that would steal your little dog OR a big dog that might not be so friendly. I'm a huge proponent of regular fences. I've had to shell out 3 times to build one each time I moved. But they are worth it. A fence would protect your kids as well - from running into the street, etc. |
