Separation Anxiety - What to do? Hello Everyone! My girlfriend and I just got another yorkie pup! She 13 weeks old, well actually 14 weeks old now. The lady we got her from was with her all the time because she was a stay at home person. Ms. Ava, (our pups name) even slept in her breeders bed at night. The problem:: :aimeeyorkWe like to kennel her at night, but since her breeder let her sleep in her bed with her, she CRIES AND CRIES and will NOT stop. She will cry all night long with a terrible crying sound; It sounds like someone is skinning her alive!!! In addition to that, she slobbers all over herself because she is in such distress. What on Earth can I do about this?? We need major help. My girlfriend and I have had her for about a week and a half now and she is not getting any better. Our last yorkie (who we still have, he is about 9 months old) was not nearly this bad and was pretty much over crying within the first week of the night time caging.:aimeeyork We need some major help ideas, PLEASE!! |
Let her sleep with you guy's for a while on the couch. have her kennel in the same room and start putting her in the kennel to get used to it . off and on during the day . then put in kennel starting at nite. but still have to be in the same room with her. couple week' of doing this she will know that is her bed. My Luci in her kennel in the family room now. and I can go to my bed room. not a peep out of her. good luck let us know how she does. Welcome to Y T .:p |
Hello and welcome! :) :wavey: A bit nightmare-y isn't it?!!? Agree with all the above - is your new Littlie's crate in your room with you? And (sorry to pry!!) is your 9 month old in the crate with your newbie? Just wondering if they were able to cuddle up together at night...:) Sally + Harry :aimeeyork x |
Hi! I am new here and have a similar problem. Just brought our little girl home yesterday and she was great all day till bedtime. She cried most of the night too! I tried to reassure her but don't want to start the habit of having her in my room at night. If I read this right you're suggesting I keep her in her crate in the family and sleep on the couch the first few nights? |
Welcome to YT. My Mylee never did accept a kennel. She is the only dog I've ever had that wouldn't. She did exactly what you describe and stressed herself to the point of it being harmful to her. Since we also had another dog, Moka, who was able to be loose while we were away, we just let Mylee stay out with her. Mylee still has terrible separation anxiety especially when she knows we are beginning to leave, but I know she gets comfort from Moka while we are away. If we didn't have Moka we would have real issues with Mylee even today. We closed off a major portion of our house leaving them basically the livingroom and kitchen while we were away. We were still able to pad train her and house break her with no real issues doing this. |
My dogs never took to kennels either...like someone said above. Our oldest, Wylie, really doesn't like confinement. When he was 10 mths old, he CHEWED thru a baby gate, I kid you not. It's a tough call. We sleep w/ all 3 of our babies, and I don't know how you feel about doing that in your house. What about instead of a cage, you try a little play pen area/fenced area near your bed? |

This worked!!!!! I put Otto in the crate with Ava and it reduced the crying about 98%!!!!!!! Thank you for the advice! I hope she learns from him and wont cry anymore! I am only putting those two together at night because I don't want them to start getting to wild in the cage when nobody is home because sometimes they get to wild and hurt one another.:aimeeyork:aimeeyork:aimeeyork:aimeeyork |
