Body Parts & position Hi, After reading through loads of posts on here, Im a little confused about the position of tails, ears, etc. Is this for showing purposes only that they need to have these qualities ie. both ears up, tails up, etc? My pup will only be a pet and will not be used for showing but Im wondering whether I can help him to get the "correct" position? Sorry if this doesnt make sense. I dont really know what this is all about. Thanks :confused: |

If you let the hair grow on your babies ears and do not keep it trimmed- eventually the weight of the hair will pull the ears down. Tails up- that has to do with several things- If your baby had his tail docked to short- it may not look like he/she is has it up. If your baby has low tail set that will make it look like it is down. Third factor is that some babies just do not carry the tail up all the time. Has to do with their temperment- they may be a tad timid or shy. No one states you must trim the hair on the ears. It is what our standard calls for when you show your baby. Most breeders try and produce babies that are as close to the show standard as possible. Has the perfect yorkie ever been bred no- we all have to continue to strive to improve. |
Thank you for that. So my pup will come to no harm if the ears/tail is down? He is just a pet, I havent had his tail docked and dont really want to. Do most people have the tails docked? |

I wasnt sure but Ive just looked it up: 'The RCVS considers docking of dogs' tails to be an unjustified mutilation and unethical unless done for therapeutic or acceptable prophylactic reasons.Therapeutic docking to treat tail injury or disease is acceptable in the interests of the animal.' :eek: |
That's a easy one...ears should be on the head...preferably one on each side. Tail on the rear end...tounge IN the mouth, rather that as an extra toe... |

To be honest, I didnt know that it wasnt allowed. As Ive said, this is the first puppy I would of had. I didnt want it doing anyway. Is there anywhere else its not allowed? |
I did a search and found these... countries, including England, Austria, South Africa, Australia, and the Scandinavian countries |
I know that here in the USA most breeders do dock the tails,but after just hearing my 2day old puppy scream the most blood curdling screams getting the dew claws and tail done, I am not sure if its the right thing to do,yet I feel as tho I really have no choice sence people expect it on a yorkie,any thoughts on the matter, do some vets put then to sleep,or is it all done awakethen all the vet did is crazy glue the bloddy ends,its been 1 week sence and he is just fine, I am the only one still in shock |
I would answer that when we were discussing this issue before most people said they didn't care if the tail was undocked and they would buy a puppy anyway if it had the tail. If I were breeding pet yorkies there is no way i would put puppies through that. I think it is cruel and purely cosmetic and done for the "show judges". :( |
