How to keep Scooter quiet after surgery Scooter is going to be neutered next tuesday. I am about to have a nervous breakdown. He is 5 years old and I kept putting it off (he's owned me for 3 years) because he has both testicles undesended. The vet says it shouldn't be a problem but I'm about to collapse. How do I keep him quiet? He is Mr. Energy. He never slows down. I have a large crate to keep him in at night but what do I do during the day? He will see his sis Bitsy roaming around and he always follows her. The vet said to keep him from running for 2WEEKS:eek: Well that will be impossible because at the end of 2 days I'll be in the nut house. Any suggestions? I'm really stressing out over this. |
Gosh really? I have never heard a vet say that before??? I would really try not to worry too much, he'll bounce back in no time. Its such a common operation, and dogs rarely have any negative side effects. I'm about to get my boy done, also 5.......I can't wait! Sick of all the pulling at the lead to get to the ladies ;-) |
I wish I had some good advice for you. When Roxy was spayed, I found she remained quieter if I didn't try to keep her quiet. My attempts to keep her quiet resulted in her getting a bit bonkers and worse than if I left her alone. I didn't do anything to encourage activity, but I had to stop trying to keep her from overdoing it. When I stopped, she was much better. It was a very frustrating time to go through, but we both made it. You'll have to feel your way through this. Hopefully some others will have some good suggestions. Good luck! |
So sorry Scooter has to go thru this. Can you keep him in a separate area from Bitsy? I know that would be difficult. After Hot Rod's surgery, I wound up holding him so I could keep him from roaming. I would also harness him and attach a neck lanyard to him and wrapped it around my wrist while we were sitting on the couch. Good luck and let us know how he does. Hugs. |
For sure I'll be using the Soft Cone Collar for Scooter. I used it when he had some...ahem...problems with his butt and it worked beautifully. I keep looking at his dear little face and thinking whats going to happen to him. I know it's not a huge, enormous deal but he's my little boy and I adore him. |
A cone... My friend down the street gave me a soft one. Corky was a little shaky when he first got home. But I just encouraged him to lay down in his crate. The next day he was fine. |
