question i was just wondering for any advice from you more experienced yorkie addicts :) once a puppy becomes around 4 months old is that equivalent to a babies "terrible twos"? my little guy was so good then once he turned 4months old, he stopped listening, getting him to eat is a chore, he won't sleep till about midnite. a few months ago my problem was sleeping too much, now he's not sleeping for me LOL. any help or advice out there? Thank you so much for any help :) |
He's probably teething. Have you found any of his teeth or is he missing his front teeth yet? :D Some have a little trouble eating dry food when they are teething, too. |
yeah he's missing 2 front teeth on the top row. so what would u do during the teething stage when they wouldnt eat dry food too much? |
Encourage him to eat it as much as you can. Maybe add a little warm water to soften it and/or top it with some Chicken with Chicken Gravy baby food. ;) If he won't eat it, you can feed him some Little Cesars (wet in the little packet at Wal-Mart and grocery stores) or chicken or chicken with rice. The yorkie I have now got really, really sick when she was teething. Worse than I've ever seen in any of my doggies. She even threw up a few times. I can even remember a couple of days where she just sorta slept most of the day and looked pitiful, but I knew it was her teeth. My vet said some just have a harder time, just as some people do. It took awhile, but I finally got mine back to her normal eating. |
It was about that time (four months) when Rowdy started "acting up". He wouldn't listen, would do what he wanted and the most annoying thing is that he would bark at us incessently when he wanted us to play or do something he thought we were not doing. He was getting out of control. I really didnt' know what to do with him so I thought about what his canine mom might do if he were being such a bad boy. What worked to stop the unwanted behavior was to grab him by his harness and shake him - like his canine mom might do (pick him up by the scruff of the neck and shake him). It only took a couple of times and then he would look at me like, "She is crazy so I'd better not do that anymore". I didn't shake him hard at all - I just startled him. The correction stopped all that "terrible twos" behavior and it has never returned. He's almost 10 months old now and he is an angel in the behavior department. He definitely knows that I am the alpha and it has really worked out well. I don't know if this will help you, but you might give it a try. Good luck! |
