Boy question Ok I have a boy question its about my moms yorkie Sammy. I have a girl so don't know much about boy yorkies. We where out the other day and my mom brought Sammy to the vet with her when Callie had to go in about her skin because he was doing that mom take me with you cry and he is very much a mamas boy (we also took them to the pet store after the vet and then him and Callie hung out with my grandpa while we went to human stores). Well we were in the grass area at the vet for Callie and Sammy to do a potty well Sam normally always lifts up his leg to go potty well he squatted to go pee and I thought that was weird because I have never seen him do that. He is 6 years old. Is it normal for a boy dog to go pee either way? Just kinda wondering :) |
My Chachi only lifts but I could see some males going both ways |
Brody only squats...he's 2. Mia squats...she's 2, too, but lifts a leg a tiny bit off the ground...lol |
Brew mostly lifts. sometimes squats still though. sometimes he will even switch legs as he is going. .....SOMETIMES he will even switch legs as he takes a few steps when he is going:p...it cracks me right up. can't even stop to piddle. |
Georgie mostly lifts but I have seen him squat. It's so cute when he lifts his leg looks like he is going to tip over LOL |
Ralph has never lifted his leg, the old place I worked out the owner said that some dogs dont start lifting until they become like 6-8 months old and I got Ralph neutered right when the vet gave the okay, so Ralph has always squatted. So i dont know if what she said was true. |
I don't think it's a problem... Couv will sometimes lift, and other times just kinda move his leg so he doesn't pee on it. I've seen a lot of boys just kinda lean into the grass to potty. It definitely think it's normal :) |
Fido does both :) sometimes he lifts his leg sometimes not, he does not lift his leg when he's having his first pee outside in the morning and also he doesn't do that if he hasn't peed for many hours. |

Bogie squats to pee unless we are out walking, then he will lift his leg if we pass by tall grass or trees. He was neutured at almost 8 months old and hadn't gotten the habit of leg lifting yet. |
Louie only lifts his legs, but some do both. |
Brody lifts outside, squats inside, lol |
