Saturday was not a good day at the Vet's Saturday was not a good day at the vets. First.. Sammy (lasha –about 7 years old) was sick. He yelped the night before when I went to pick him up:eek:. He didn’t want to go outside (potty time) and would not climb the stairs. During the night he threw up (yes, on our bed:( – which was odd because he didn’t jump down) I may have slept through it but Remy got upset :rolleyes:and woke me up. The next morning he would not eat or drink. So off to the vet we rushed. They did a blood work up.. at first they said it may be Pancreatitis !! That came back neg. so he thought it may be problems with his stomach, maybe even hook worms. They gave him a de wormer, and some other meds for his stomach. I have to give him ¼ of a peptic tablet. The vet also was concerned about his back. Lashas are a bit longer then tall so there could be problems. I am to get a harness and teach him to use the stairs for the bed. Poor guy looked so sick .. he slept all day. We are waiting for results for the test that had to be set out. It is even harder because we had to go to Tampa for dh’s check up. Lisa offered to keep him but I am lucky that I have a friend who stays with them at the house:animal36. Then there is Remy. She had her check up at the same time. The vet said she had LP:eek::eek::eek::mad:… grade 1 maybe 2. I was shock.. don’t know why. I asked the vet about breeding and such. He said most Yorkies have lp… he said I was a long way from having to worry about it. But again be careful about jumping (he then laughed, I know she is a yorkie and she is active) He nicked named her Killer.. Princess Killer. He said her teeth were fairly good, Sammy’s not so (it has been 3 years from his last dental, they were good last year). I said I brush Remy’s teeth. He seamed upset that I would brush Remy’s teeth and not Sammy’s. I explained…. Sammy bites:eek:!!! |
oh a world wind all at once!! hope sammy is doing better. |
You sure did have a day of it :( I hope Sammy is nothing to serious and will be feeling much better in not time. Poor guy. It does seem LP occurs so much with these little ones. Let's hope, it stays low and will never need surgery. I think some don't ever get to that point. |
Oh geez, everything at once. How is Sammy feeling now? Couver has a low grade of lp and I just make sure they never jump off the bed and use the ramp up the stairs. My vet also said to not let him get overweight, because that will only make things worse. |
When it rains it pours! I hope Sammy is doing better and Remy's LP remains stable. I hope Alan gets great news at his check up. |
awww Shinja! |
That does sound like a rough day. Sending prayers for Sammy that he will feel better soon. |
Wow, that is really a tough day, I hope all are better soon. |
I hope Sammy continues to improve    |
Awh Shinja so sorry to hear of the pups woes. About the teeth are you using the additive in the water to help with the plaque...I think in the States you can get TropicClean which has some good reviews here. That back of your 7yr old could be a concern. Did the vet suggest Xrays? I have been "blessed" with the only dog in BRT history so far that has been diagnosed with DLSS - degenerative lumbosacral syndrome. How-ever we do well with physio, water work, chiro (as needed), and I do limit his jumping. Now onto the LP for Remy. Lots of threads here on LP and stuff you can do. Briefly though seriously consider a joint supplement for her, and actually Sammy could benefit as well. Cosequin or Dasuquin are two here that I've read about. I use a supplement made by a different manufacturer here in Canada. Somewhere I've posted lots of remedial exercise suggestions for dogs with LP. It's no big deal if there are no clinical signs, and there is so much you can do to help the pup have a happy life for a long time. Hugs to your beautiful Remy .... Razzle says he loved his Valentines' Day jaunt with Remy |
Hoping Sammy gets better soon. I know how hard it is! Mikki has LP too. My vet said it was very common in Yorkies as well. Remy just needs a little extra attention now.:p:D Now, Miss Remy, how do you like that Sonic care now. Maybe mom should try that on Sammy when he starts feeling better!:eek: |
Hope Sammy's feeling better. And I hope your DH's appt went well. And that Remy's LP gets no worse! |
Wishing Sammy a speedy recovery... |

Thank you for the advice. I have been reading on the LP.. my vet recomended cosequin for both Sammy and Remy. I know some dogs like Doxies are in "danger" I guess I never worried too much about Sammy. I really like this new vet.. he seams very much on top of things. As soon as he feels better I will have his teeth cleaned. Also the "law" has been written that NO TABLE SCRAPS ANYMORE!! This was a scare that was too close to home. We are still struggling with his eye. He had the small ulcer that healed but because he had a "cherry eye" operation several years past he has dry eye. The drops help but sometimes the eye still looks goopy. Aww.. and I WANT another dog??????? lol |
